Direct R1 and R2 rips and quality is astounding but there is the odd pixelation due to compresion for example on explosions in Grave of the Fireflies. They are all anamorphic widescreen which is pleasing but ther are few aliasing issues when playing it on Consoles. so best stick to a dedicated DVDplayer
Audio:
Excellent Rips but some distortion in Porco-Rosso. Seem a mix of 2.0 and 5.1 depending on move but the dual audio is excellent overall

Comment:
Most are R1 rips, with animated pictures and everything. But porco rosso and totoro have their original japanese menus. this set is amazing and is now out of Print by FX so if you wanna get your hands on it be quick coz most stores have run out. pity really because this set is quality.

The video bounces around from movie to movie although mostly high quality R1 or R2 rips some of the video has a cheap flicker to it, like you see in cheaper dvd players or cheaper dvds. (Probably because of compression). Overall the video isnt bad at all. Grave Of The Fireflies is baised off the older (non remastered) Region 1 version. You see some occasional green tent in the back ground and it just doesnt look as good as my Zoke version of the movie maybe a tiny bit blurry and some minor pixelation in the background.
Audio:
The audio is great, except the Porco Rosso English dub is... so-so in the long run.

My only major complaint about this set is that on both my Norcent and my Apex and PS2 dvd players Porco Rosso kept freezing and skipping around halfway through the movie and wouldnt go on. Other than that this set is flawless.

Wow. This is some of the best video I have ever seen in a HK set. Everything looks perfect. This is very important for a set like this because the art and animation is truly top notch and it is definately shown in its prime form. Very nice job.
Audio:
Perfect. I got this set because I wanted to show some of these films to my 4th grade students and it is very nice to have the dub option for those who want to enjoy these great films but aren't used to reading subs. Both the Japanese and English tracks are superb.

This is a fine example of the great sets that FX can produce. I have watched all of the films and they all are at the same quality level. This set would make a great gift for anyone, even people who aren't really into anime. The films on this set are truly classics and there is something for everyone. Thank-you FX and domo-arigato-go-zaio-mas Myazaki-san.

The menus on this set are kind of annoying as there are two movies a disc each with its own menu system. You choose which film you want to go in from the first menu then you are brought to the films menu, the only problem is that there is no button to go back to the first menu. The dvd I played it on had no root menu button so I was stuck so I tried to turn it off but the dvd had auto resume. I stuck in another disc to try an clear the resume but it remembers back like 20 discs lol so I was very stuck! I don't see why they couldn't put in a main menu button on the discs... Oh well. This is just a quick review to let you know about Totoro's not so perfect subs. I'll add more when i've watched it all. Oh and this set also has some cool extras to keep you happy and is definatley worth the buy, it's just a shame it's not completely perfect...

THIS IS THE BEST R-0 ANIME DVD I OWN. I have been a collector of region-0 animes for about 2 years and i have a huge collection. i must say that this is THE BEST out of them all. hands down. PACKAGING-extremely sturdy, unlike other boxsets, this is made of much tougher material than cardboardish stuff. it is more plasticy. when u open it up u can see all of the dvds all lines up neatly in sturdy dvd holders. on the outside, one side provides info on the dates of each of the 7 movies. one side is the front cover. the other two have nice pictures of each movie and a synopsis for each one. brilliant! the pictures on the cover are made of a different material then the rest of the packaging, they are smoother and make the whole package look more proffesional. the disks themselves are also top quality. they are not floppy like normal disks and have holographicish covers. EXTRAS: each disk has 2 movies on it (except for one disk which only has spirited away). 5 out of the seven movies have an extras/previews section. though most of the extras dont really work, a few of them do. and they are a nice addition to this already perfect set. MENUS: Most are R1 rips, with animated pictures and everything. However, porco rosso and totoro have their original japanese menus (no english). It doesnt really matter though, cuz anyone with half a mind can still navigate them. GET THIS SET IT IS A MUST OWN
