Overall:
Video:
Ripped from the R2 DVDs, this set looks perfect. Offcourse it ISN'T as perfect as the R2s itsself, but they managed to rip the DVDs without compressing it too much. There nearly isn't any pixelation, even in the fast scenes. There are no e-mail adresses or MI logo's burned onto the video. Presented in the original aspect ratio of anamorphic 16:9 widescreen (The pics don't show it though, for some reason PowerDVD resizes them to 4:3, but the DVDs are definately 16:9). One of the best HK DVDs i've seen, if not the best.
Audio:
Great sounding stereo track, although it seemed it was recorded very loud for some reason. But that isn't really a problem I guess.
Subtitle:
Since taken from fansubs, they are 'perfect' (as far as fansubs are perfect) as they can be, translation and grammar-wise. The only problems here were that sometimes the timing was a tad off, and it made it a little bit hard to understand. Another anoying thing they sometimes did is split a sentence in two, and if it had a short part, and a longer part, they gave them both the same screen-time, which made the longer part harded to read. You just have to rewind sometimes. Also, there were a few words or letters missing, which sometimes gave you some thinking. Overall it's subbed very well. Check out the screenshots for some samples.
Comment:
It looks like a nice series. I haven't finished it yet, but the style is pretty original. A tiny bit reminicent of FLCL, but not too much. The total is 13 episodes split over 2 discs. First disc has the first 8 (I believe) episodes + a music video for the opening song (it's a textless extended version of the opening, running about 3 minutes). Besides that there were no extra's. Chapters stops are available for the Opening, Episode, Ending and Preview (if I recall correctly). A very nice set, quality wise. And the series seems fun too.
