Ah, the previous reviewer already had the "purrfect" pun. So it's just "perfect" for me.
Audio:
Probably perfect, although I can't really tell with my simple stereo TV.

Well with this set, you don't have to write a lot. Perfect means perfect. The movie itself may not be one of the Ghibli classics, but it was very nice. A bit more on the funny side than other Ghibli movies. I really smiled a lot during the beginning, when Haru is still in the normal world and suddenly those cats show up. I always admire the Japanese, how they can blend the fantastic into the normal without being ridiculous. All the Disney dudes should watch the Ghibli movies, trying to find that special spirit that left their movies some decades ago. The "Ghiblies 2" was a nice addition. Reminded me a little of the "My neighbours, the Yamadas" movie. The second disc was worthless to me, since I don't care at all about any extras like storyboards or interviews. Highly recommended, although you pay for an extra disc. Equipment used: Kenwood DVF-3080 PAL player, cheap Grundig 27" stereo TV

Purrrrrfection. As the movie is only an hour and 15mins (roughly), the video quality is as good as can be. Gorgeous 16X9 widescreen transfer without any flaws at all. The menu button hilights were off by a bit, but that's hardly anything to worry about. The movie's video itself was as good as it gets.
Audio:
Just as flawless as the video. The japanese audio track is clear, the volume levels are great, and the soundtrack sounds wonderful. After watching this movie twice, I don't think I even care about whether or not the show ever gets dubbed in English... the japanese voice acting is super.

I can't say enough about this set. Even if it didn't come with the 2nd, short film, and all the extras this set has to offer, it would be worth every penny. It's possible, after a few more viewings, that the Cat Returns may edge out Spirited Away as my favorite Ghibli movie. The animation of the cats' movements is jaw-dropping, and all of the character designs put Disney to shame (not surprising these days). The movie oozes style, but at the same time, is a very quiet, light, fairy-tale-esque experience. Can't recommend it enough. The video is top notch. No visible pixelation whatsoever, Very well defined and crisp colors. A treat to watch and even the extras are equally good.
Audio:
No distortions of any sort. Very clean sounding and this is from just the stereo from my TV.

An enjoyable movie for anyone who loves cats. Good humor and even has a sprinkle of action. Menu system was in Japanese though, my dvd player had a problem with just playing the movie as oppose to getting into the main menu.

Wow! Wow! And WOW! This release is a true anamorphic release of the highest quality I've seen yet from a HK set. The colours are vibrant without losing any of the subtleties. I didn't see even a hint of pixelation or stutter throughout the whole disc (both of them). This is important given the quality of the original artwork for both The Cat Returns and Ghiblies Chapter 2. Wow! again
Audio:
I only have two speakers in my set up (a pair of Missions run through my Kenwood amp) so I can't vouch for the quality of the 5.1 seperation but I can say that the sound quality and placement is also some of the best I've ever heard from a HK release. Music, dialogue, and sound effects are all crisp, well balanced, and a pleasure to hear.

Everyone should own this set. I haven't seen something that left me feeling so good about watching it for a long time. Easily on par with Spirited Away but without the menace. The first disc has the main attraction, The Cat Returns, and a collection of shorts, Giblies Chapter 2. The second disc has story boards for both of these movies without any English subtitles. It also has an interview with the director which is also not subtitled so it didn't do me much good. To be honest the only negative thing I can say is that I really didn't need the second disc due to the lack of subtitles and that I've seen story boards before so they don't excite me as much as they once did. Fortunately this is such an excellent movie that having to pay for two discs is more than worth it. I know that I will watch this movie again and again and again.

Unlike the Manga International version that is compresses both movies on a D5 DVD this version has both movies on 2 seperate D9 DVDs and maintains the picture quality of the original Japanese version. Perfect 5

Comment:
Out of all of the HK versions of "The Cat Returns" floating around this one is by far the best one to own. Besides the addition of Chinese subtitles this version has no differences from the original Region 2 version.
