Video:
Video on this release was pretty decent. Disc one suffers from slight pixelation. Nothing to write home about. I'd give disc one a 4.5 in video. Disc two, on the other hand, had a little bit more pixelation. I'm not talking FX levels of pixelation, but it had a little more then disc one did. But, you can always tell what's going on and the picture isn't too screwed up. It just wasn't as smooth as it could've been. This game to a surprise as me, expecially seeing how the TV show set was perfect in video. But don't worry, the pixelation won't destroy your viewing of the show.
Audio:
Sound is perfect. I didn't notice any drop outs or nothing wrong with it. And it would've een very noticeable, too, with all the screaming and shouting and explosions going on. So, no problems at all with the sound!

Comment:
This is the follow up OVA to the Gaogaigar TV series. While the TV show did leave the ending open, I felt that it wrapped up pretty nicely, but I guess they felt they needed to continue the story. Story here is that since the 31 Primevals of Zonder fell, a program I guess made by Abel (Kaido's real father) activates. The 11 Kings of Sol. They will recreate the original solar system Mamoru and Kaido hail from, but at the cost of OUR Milky Way. Enter our hero's, who won't stand for anything threatening our galaxy.
As for the discs themselves...
OK, I just want to get this out of the way first, but this set is LOADED with extras. I can't stress it enough. Here's what I checked out, and I doubt I've seen it all.
-Each episode has accompanying preproduction sketches. That's a whole lot of sketches.
-Creditless Openings and Ending. I don't know how many creditless opening variaties they had.
-GAOGAIGAR CONCERT!!!! Now this was f'ing awesome. The guy who did the vocal songs for the show sings them! He does three variations of the opening song: the original TV version, the Final OVA version, and then he has cast members form the show come out and sing the TV version with him! Gai's voice actor comes out and screams his parts. It's so awesome!
-Gaogaigar recording session. Said above vocal singer and Gai's voice actor once again in the studio singing a song from the OVA. Really awesome. I think it was more of a music video though.
I think there may be more extras, but I just didn't have enough time to check them all out. This set is worth it for the extras alone!
OK, now with that out of the way, the cases is pretty nice looking. I'd preder to have the one I see on Ebay all the time with Gaogaigar looking all bad ass on the cover with some German writing, but hey, you take what you can get. The front cover shows Gaogaigar huge in the back with pretty much all of the good guy cast along the bottom. Under them it says the shows title in English, with the Japanese logo at the top. Inside pictures have various mechs and characters as pictures, with the title written in English at the bottom. The back has another picture of Gaogaigar with little pictures and English names of some of the robots and characters. In the middle is all the episodes (with a relating screen shot) with description, in Japanese. Then, the typical disc stats at the bottom. Disc one's picture is of Gaogai, with the show's logo. Disc two has Mamoru, with the logo on the bottom, same as disc one.
Episodes on the discs are distributed with five on disc one, three on disc two for a total of eight episodes. Disc one is a DVD-9, whic disc two is a DVD5.
Each discs starts out with the AV logo, which you can skip. Then, it cuts to the menu, which is set up differently. You have your typical Play All at the top, but then, each episode title is listed under it. Click on it, and you go to a new menu where you can select which part of the episode to go to! Each episode is divided into opening, part A, part B, ending, and next episode preview. Then, under all that, is the extras you can access! Each episode has different ones, so check them all out for different extras!
Disc two is the same, except it plays a little different. After the episode in disc two, the corresponding extras play. You have to skip past them to check out the next episode. Slightly annoying. And while all the eyecatches are intact, for some reason, the first disc skips all the "Key to Victory" two second clips after the next episode preview. The final ones are present on disc two, so you get to see what they are like.
No watermarks or email addresses, for those who are bothered by them!
And that sounds about right. Watched the show on using my Toshiba SD-1200, which as usual screws up when it comes to switching disc layers. And on my Zentih TV from the late 80s, early 90s, which is still holding up well. If you are saw Gaogaigar TV or are a super robot fan in general, pick this set up!
As a final note, I'd like to mention that even if you saw all of the TV series, you will most likely be confused going into this show. One of the main characters, Renais, comes from a series of Gaogaigar novels, along with Light and Dark Dragon (more vehicle robots.). Bionet, too, stems from these novelizations. And apparently, the character of Papillion Noir is from the show Betterman! For those who don't know, Betterman and Gaogaigar take place in the same universe. So yes, you may be slightly confused at some parts, but don't worry, everything will make perfect sense what you start watching it, and most of the side story stuff you don't even need to know. Ask me in the forums if anything absolutely confuses you involving side story stuff and I'd be glad to help!
