Very little pixilation in this set despite the age of this show and the little that there is; is probably the result of the source material, there are other problems but those are explained in the notes area?
Audio:
Throughout the audio was loud and clear no complaints here

The chapter breaks can be quite bad for the first two discs of this set almost all if not all the chapter breaks the OP ends run into the episode start chapter break. There are other ones as well but irregardless I see no reason to lower the video score or anything else based on that fact. But this is defiantly one of the darkest and best anime series around and the only one I know of that deals with the medieval era.

This is my favorite series of all time. It has romance, action, advanture, horror...you name it! I was hooked on this show and watched the entire series in two days. I heard rumors of a sequel and I hope they are true.

Yet another excellent rip from FX with nice and bright colors. Although, there is still some glitches in the set, like pixelation, macroblocking and stactic flickers, it is not that bad. The pixelation doesn't occur till the 3 episode on the second disc and rarely happens after that. The macroblocking didn't occur till the second to last episode on the third disc, and I should say that when the macroblocking occured it happend quite a number of times, but was really fast that it didn't bother me too much. For the static flickers, some of you might not know what i'm saying so i'll decribe that. Its like when i'm watching I see quick flashes of white dots jump on and off the screen really fast, and in different places whenever they occur. Again this happens very quick and is easy to ignore, but this did happen to me throughout the first and second disc and hardly at all on the third disc. It only happend on the third disc one or two times. Still these errors are not big enough for you to not enjoy ths addicting series.
Audio:
Audio is nice and loud with dolby digital surround 5.1. The was a scene on the set (first disc third episode) where I thought I heard caska shout out to griffith in japanese although my setting were still on the english track. I dunno, I might have heard it wrong or something. It still gets a 5 for me tho

Very suspensful and addicting storyline, with lots of blood and the such. If you liked hellsing or ninja scroll you should check this out.

There are some pixleation in this set and its not completely perfect but its so minor that it doesn't matter. In my boxset the video would sometimes freeze and play in a couple of secs to 1 minute.

Be prepared for the ending, but if you follow this saying from someone in the message boards you will not feel so bad about the ending. "Also the fact that the Anime show was to tell the story of how Gutts grew from the boy you say in ep2 to the guy you saw in ep 1.. go figure.. And it does that very well. and i think the ending is just fine with what it is suppose to tell for the story.." ~Schultz I would also like too add that this set is reviewed from someone who was clueless about Berserk and didnt really like the mid-evil time. But it turned out too be intresting and orginal and the show is really made of Character Development and Action and a little Romance. Its all around goodness! The video quality in this set is just like that seen in the actually R1 discs. The only problem that I happened upon was the fact that the video seemed a little too dark at times. Aside from that there were no pixelation mistakes or the like.

THis series is a very good series and is a good compliment to the MANGA. My only problem is that it seems like the series itself was rushed into production. This series isn't for everybody, but if you wan't to know of GUTS and his past then by all mean pick up this set.

Great, I found very few to no problems with it, I didnt rate it perfectly because there where some spots which the characters kinda had this red outline that didnt look like it was supposed to be there. then again, it could be my DVD player. One thing was that whenever I skipped over a scene, it would go 5 seconds past or before where it should be going. did anyoen else have this problem?
Audio:
No problems, I watched it in Japanese (I dislike dubs.) It was smooth for audio the whole way through, so it's all good. I have no errors to report.

I highly recomend this to anyone who is interested in the middle ages, fantasy's, and even mysteries. It is amung my favorite series that I've watched, and rightfully FX did it justice. One of my favorite aspects of this was the opening and the ending. They are both amazing and very well done, as well as the video's for them. The Menu's overall I liked, though, they were very dark. Anyone wanting something new, exciting, action packed and original, you should seriously look into Berserk. Overall a very wellbalanced anime.

As posted in other reviews, this -is- clearly from an R1 source, however, the video quality did take a noticeable hit in this particular set. Not quite as nice as some of the other FX sets (Escaflowne, X) in my opinion, but definitely passable as the source material is considerably older.
Audio:
The audio did not take as much of a hit for this set as the video did. No complaints here at all, really. The english dub sounds fantastic, and all the blood and gore rings through in it's squishy glory through the entire show. Again, considering the original source is older than more recent FX releases, they did a good job with what they had. It's no Noir in the audio department, but again, very passable considering.

Comment:
Another commendable effort from FX, however, I ran into some difficulties I wasn't accustomed to seeing in other FX releases. The chapter marks were off... so that they would actually take you to about 6 or 7 seconds prior to the spot they should have (i.e. opening takes you to the last few seconds of the previous episodes' preview trailer). Also, when you get to the end of the discs, on the last episode, instead of linking you back to the main DVD menu, I found it taking me into the "Extras" feature for that disc... very confusing when I didn't realise I was on the last episode, and thought the DVD was skipping me past an episode until I figured out what was happening. Small complaints though, and the only problem like this I've found from FX. You won't regret picking this set up.

Berserk is a great series, but it's very different from almost any other anime I know of. It takes a while to get into it and in the begining it seems kind of boring but it turns into a really great anime series. I'd rate it pretty highly with the only problem being the bad unfinished ending, its a pitty the ending does not follow the manga more.

Awesome series There are some extras likesome outtakes from the english voice actors (pretty funny), sketches, etc. Also includes some of the trailers. In the castle town of Midland, a new king has come to power through treachery and violence. His demonic agents victimize the citizens unchecked, until the night when a battle weary soldier approaches the city. Covered in a slew of weapons and countless jagged scars, he calls himself the Black Swordsman. The sword he carries is the size of his grudge against the king, and he hunts the servants of evil with unrelenting fury... well thats the 1st ep anyway... the Ending loops to this 1st ep and the rest of the 24eps is the backstory... by god the character development, soundtrack is beautiful and the ending is a cliffhanger to say the least with no closure. evr since its airing in Japan in 1997 there have been rumours abound of the sequal series but now its 2004 and still no sign. the Ending or lack of one is due to the fact that the manga is still going strong and there is no signs of an end. actually after watching the series you will yearn for more and probably like me start following the manga where you learn more and get closure on the anime ending... plus learn of some more charcaters that were left out in the series but can easily be put in to the sequel if there is one... what the hell are you still reading for... BUY IT NOW

The video from this is clearly an R1 rip, but still not perfect. There is some blockiness during the high-action scenes. I noticed it when I played it through my PS2, using a standard RCA cable, and some of it was gone when I played it through my standalone Toshiba DVD player, using an S-video cable. That's the only real downside to this rip, and I never experienced any of the black screens, etc, that other people have mentioned...could have just been a bad disc.
Audio:
The audio here seemed perfect, and I couldn't tell the difference from the R1 discs. Even in 2.0 Dolby Surround, it sounds excellent. Both the Japanese, and English tracks are included, and the English is actually watchable unlike most other Anime. The only thing that could make this audio better was if there was 5.1 included, but even the R1's don't have that so I can't really complain about it.

Comment:
Overall an excellent set, and worthy to add to any Anime fan's collection. The presentation of the collection is average, though. There is no glossy stuff anywhere on the set, no table of contents, and is all looks really plain. SOme nice extras are included, like concept art, trailers, interviews, etc.

The video hung up twice for me, but didn't skip anything, it just played a black screen once for about 10 seconds, but I'm not sure the real amount of time as I simply fastfowarded through it. Anotehr time it the video stoped for about 2-3 seconds. It sounds bas, but it's really not. As for glitching up, I saw a small amount, btu not enough to really annoy myself, or any of the others who watched with me.

I heard no problems that weren't caused by my set up, which is greatly out dated.

It sms a lot of people think of Berserk as a just an action, see-how-many-we-can-kill-in-one-episode type of show. And as for that purpose it is great, but it also has a wonderful & interesting plot. The disc contain extras: My favorites being the outtakes. This is a good series for any fan of action to get. The show starts out somewhat realish, then near the end, more elements of fiction appears.

Hey! Where's the ending? Dohz...I thought there is an ending to this series. It just stops where it is making me getting real into it. When it stopped, I thought there's a bug in FX Berserk again, my dvd player won't load up the first Berserk FX set I had. Then I realised that the rest of the series is not yet in animation yet. Makes me wonder when would the rest be out. I do wish that the titles are there when searching through the episodes. The episodes are just listed as 1,2,3 ......

The quality of this video is some of the best I have seen. It has many scenes in it were you might expect to find some pixilation, but you rarely see any through all 25 episodes. I believe I may have seen some once or twice, however it was not disturbing at all.
Audio:
They re-worked the dubbing much to my delight. It is exellent for those people that like to watch the dubbed version. They even have some of the dubbing out-takes from production as an extra feature on the DVDs. I thought the voices fit the characters and the translations were not far off at all. Over all this might be the best I have heard... maybe ;)

The box really could use a table of contents or something, it is kind of hard to find my favorite episodes. I keep forgetting what number they are, geez, you would think I would learn. Other than that my only other problem with this is that there aren't more episodes! I got hooked after the first 5 and now i am wanting more than the 25 that are out. Now i know that not their fault, I don't think the rest are animated yet- but still. If you walk away with one thing...err... scroll away? Anyway, go with this, this series is very well done and entertaining- but if you don't want to be left hanging... buy it and pester someone that can finish the rest of it!!!

Ripped from the heavenly R1's, the video on this set is *just* about as good as the Official stateside release. Note I said *just*. It falls just a little bit short since there is a slightly higher level of macroblocking, most notably during the battle scenes, then what is to be found in the R1 release. However, this really won't bother many people - just anal idiots like me who have to nit pick at every audiovisual aspect of a show :) Aside from that the video on this set is impressive to say the least, with everything being nice 'n' sharp and attractive to look at. If the transfer seems slightly dark or a tad saturated, it's because that's the way the R1's were to begin with and from what I could tell the original masters that Media Blasters were supplied with, weren't excatly in the best condition. Still in any event, this is still some great looking video.
Audio:
Ok, Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks are both alive and well so to speak in the English and Japanese audio tracks with no audible differences in comparison to their R1 counterpart. Obviously for a lot of dub fans (like myself) who shunned the original HK releases (again, like myself) will be delighted to know that the dub is on this release and sounds fine. A lot of people despise the Berserk dub, personally I have no qualms with it, but that's an argument for another day I guess ^_^ What can I say the audio on this set is identical to the R1's and thus is excellent. The Japanese audio track does appear to sound ever so slightly quieter on the intro and credits than the English track but from what I can tell, this was the case with the R1's too. Crisp, audible and clear sound is what you'll find here. Good stuff.

Not a bad anime. I hadn't seen it before. Has some cool fighting. It is really bloody if that matters to you. Alittle nudity as well. The box also shows the slight nudity so beware if you have parents or other people who may judge or think it is hentai. Each disk has extras like trailers, pic galleries, concept art, and clean openings and closings. One minor thing to note: besides for kenshin in the trailers, the other ones are pixelated.

Very good quality (R1 rip). However, it's not perfect. There's signs of compression, but not very noticable. It doesn't bother me at all. You also have to consider the fact that this anime is six years old, so the video quality isn't up to par with todays standards (however, this is not a bad thing). Check out some of the screenshots I posted. To know what the quality is _really_ like, you'll have to see it for yourself though.

Packaging is great, I like it. DVD menu's are kinda cool, although I don't really use them a lot. I especially like the scene menu's, they're great. Everything is sort of animated, which is nice. Main menu is too dark (see screenshot), but things are readable. Final conclusion: I think I can safely say that this is a great set of a great series; it's guaranteed you won't regret buying this.

R1 rip. due to cramming 10 eps on a disc, there is a drop in quality, but I thought the R1 quality was rather poor to begin with. If you've seen the R1s, you have a general idea of what to expect. As opposed to previous FX titles, there is no blocking in high action sequences. New Matrix which doesn't look as good overall, but cuts out the macroblocking. Whatcha gonna do, I guess?
