Reviews for Haibane Renmei Complete Collection
Video:
Audio:
Subtitles:

Overall:

Video:

100% TV-rip presented in non-anamorphic 16:9 widescreen. Episodes 1 & 8-13 have vertical ghost bars visible all over the screen. Really annoying, therefore my low rating. Apart from that, it´s still watchable; no pixelation or pop-ups at all. So, even if you dislike TV-rips like I do, you´ll at least like the quality of episode 2-7, as they look alright.

Audio:

Japanese 2 ch stereo mix; nothing exceptional. If you listen carefully you may hear a slight noise in the background, but only in some episodes with those ghosting bars mentioned above (propably caused by bad signal reception).

Subtitle:

What can I say: to me they seem like fansubs although I know they are propably just very good HK originals. No stupid typos or ackward sentences. All names are correct, as well as important terms like "haibane" or "factory". Excellent grammar and timing; also I didn´t notice any lines missing. Only some occasional on-screen text that hasn´t been translated, that´s all. Everything´s typed in an easy-to-read yellow font, the same we already know from other AV releases.

Comment:

Packaging: 4.5/5 MI´s gatefold shows some beautiful artwork done by ABE Yoshitoshi. Both discs are held securely in their place and can be removed easily. There´s no email spam added to the design. Actually, MI is not mentioned anywhere on this set. Just the catalogue number. Overall a really nice looking set. As you might already have guessed right, Haibane Renmei MI is a direct rip of the AV version. Hence all 13 episodes are still TV-rips, coming on 2 dvds. No additional logos or email spam during the show, neither from MI nor AV. (Testing equipment: Elta 8895 DVDP progressive scan, Panasonic 29" flat HDTV, Kenwood/ JBL stereo setup)
