Video:

I read a lot of reviews that say this is an R1 rip of the DVD. I don't believe the video is an R1 rip because all the credits in the middle of "The End of Evangelion" are still in Japanese without subs and there aren't any credits for the US production team. It does appear to be a very well done DVD source rip though so I'm not complaining.

Audio:

This is great audio and for both the Japanese and English audio tracks. I can't test the 5.1 track but everything is buzz free and recorded at good levels. The English dub is very well done and uses the same voice actors from the TV series so everyone feels the same. The Audio surprise on The End of Evangelion is the audio commentary from the North American production team. It's worth watching the movie a second time with this running to gain some addtional insights into this series and movie.

Subtitle:

The subs are excellently translated without any Engrish. I believe these subs have been lifted from the R1 release of the video. Four or five times there are dropped lines in The End of Evangelion and the timing gets off briefly for two scenes.

Comment:

Death is mostly a condensed retelling of the series with a string quartet set up just to make things weirder. They do a pretty good job of condensing the 12 hours of TV series into 30 minutes to refresh peoples memories if they haven't seen the series in a while. Rebirth is all new footage that ends with a cliffhanger which leaves you wanting to watch the final movie. The End of Evangelion includes all the footage from Rebirth and continues from there. If you have the whole TV series, I recommend just getting the End of Evangelion and skipping Death and Rebirth. One final note is with the "Features" on The End of Evangelion. It starts out as a trailer for the movie but ends up stopping the whole DVD part way through the trailer.

the tv series is way better than the movies ( in my opinion ) since the first movie is simply a big recap, resume of the whole tv series, only 2 out of the numbered angels were left out but that's it, and then you got the second movie, but that's still on disc 1. you get 30 minutes and then you need to change but when you change you have that same 30 minutes on your second disc so kinda like a waste of time to forward the thing. I must say that at least the second movie was good, Asuka just kicked butt like hell but Shinji still acts like a wimp. I still didn't get the meaning of the story in the movie lol, but for me tv series is enough and I could of gone without the movies.

watched on pc's screen it shows some grain on very dark scenes. otherwise, perfect.

Subtitle:

watched with italian (whoooow!!!^^) subtitles, almost perfect, except for some annoying errors on mispellings( very important ones , thou...translation from italian sub: don't need to throw...- real meaning : we need to throw ---> "non" instead of "noi"), but they happen so rarely that it's almost irrelevant. and I'm soo glad they started making Italian subs...yay!!!!!

Comment:

This serie and the relative movies are a must watch, I don't mean they will change your life...no, huh?

Video:

Perfect rip of the R1 version. There were no pixalation or other such problems. Everything ran smooth during fast action scenes.

Audio:

Plenty of audio options to choose from including DTS which worked fine on my 5.1 system. The sound was especially good on End of Evangelion. They even found room to include the commentary for End of Evangelion which was a surprise to me. Overall the sound is perfect just like the video.

Subtitle:

Having seen some very bad HK subtitling, I can say that all is perfect with this set. The subs are timed and there's no Engrish to be found. Once again perfection is accomplished.

Comment:

Overall I got to say that I'm very impressed with this movie set. Everything is perfect about it. There was one glitch which I don't know is only cause on my Toshiba 1800. When I tried to fast forward through the trailer on End of Evangelion, my dvd player got stuck and would need to be plugged off in order for it to stop spinning uncontrollably. I would recommend this set to any Eva fan that needs closure to the whole saga.
