Reviews for Dragonball Z Part 2

The only thing that makes this department not arise with a whole 5 stars is minor pixelation at heavy battle scenes. You really have to look for it though to see. The video is just brilliant, no over-emphasized colors like in the FUNimation dub.

Audio:

The audio is just fine. The original DBZ was in Mono and MI decided to make a semi-stereo sound for this set. I hear no echoing or anything like that. Obviously it's not true stereo like Dolby 5.1 surround, but it isn't supposed to be. It sounds great! No problems here.

Subtitle:

Most of the problems with the subtitles lie in the fact of bad translations of names. Krillin aka Kuririn translates to Korin and Kurin, later in the sets he is named "Krullin" which is bareable. Yamcha is translated to Yimcha. Kaio-ken is translated to King Kai Punch Genki Dama aka Spirit Bomb is translated to Energy Blast The Kamehameha gets translated to "Roshi Skill" or "Roshi Cannon" The subbers still use "Uncle" when Gohan talks to anyone... IE: "Uncle Piccolo, Uncle Krullin, etc" Kind of odd. Another weird term which has seemed to followed a few of these sets is.. "Don't stand on ceremony" which I think is supposed to mean "Don't take your time" or "Hurry up" Just to fill you guys in on that one. Apart from these minor problems, the story is easily understood and sentence structure is pretty good. Even if you don't know characters names or have never watched any Dragon Ball you will be able to understand A-OK ;)

Comment:

Once again MI has done a pretty good job. These sets are ripped from the Dragon Box R2's from Japan. So aside from the sometimes mistranslated names, which can easily be figured out, you will have everything here to follow the story. This is Dragon Ball as how it is ment to be viewed. Check this set out!

the video deserves more than 5 stars i cant belive the video on these dbz dvds its awesome!! just look at the fight between goku and vegeta on the pineer dub it looks though pioneer just put the sereies on dvd without touching it up. you can tell this is a remastered set just by the opening alone.. i noticed no problems what so ever with pixelation..crystal clear video!!

Audio:

i can hear every scream''punch''kick''blast' audio sounds good to me 5 out of 5!!.

Subtitle:

the subtitles where done very good i can understand everything thats being said. but here are the few ninor things that are mispelled you will only complain about them if you have nothing else to B**ch about.. krillin'''and korin yamcha''and yincha genki dama''and Ki Bomb kaioken'' and king kai punch kamehameha''and roshi skill aside form a few mispelled moves this has a good sub on it. they did manage to spell these names right though nappa vegeta piccolo popo bulma roshi theres no need to be picky about these sub i think it deserves a 5.

Comment:

this is a very good dvd i highly reccomend if you wanna see these episodes uncut since pioneer has them edited..heres just a few of the things you will see they didnt show you on the pioneer release. gohan doing pullups on a ledge out side the hospital yajirobe getting the crap beat out of him while hes upside down krillin coughing up blood after vegeta kicks the crap out of him bulma in her underwear lol!! and finally BLOOD!! theres lots of scenes you will see that you didnt..

The remastered video in these Dragonbox ripped set really puts the R1 disks to shame. The colours are far more natural looking, there is no horrible red tint, the picture is not cropped round the edges, even the artwork looks finer and more detailed. MI logo watermarks appear from time to time but they are a rarity. Dragon Ball Z has never looked so good.

Audio:

MI seem to have created a kind of pseudo-stereo effect from the original mono sound. It isn't distracting and the sound is perfectly clear, but I would have preferred it in its original form.

Subtitle:

Grammatically there's an improvement here over set 1. The names are still wrong and every now and again the meaning of a scene is lost due to poor translation. But generally they're very well done and everything you need to follow the story is there.

Comment:

Overall these are excellent sets for an excellent series. The episodes each have an opening sequence, a re-cap, and an ending sequence, all that's missing are the next-episode previews which I never watched anyways. The subs throughout set 2 are way better than those from the first disk of set one. It's a shame they didn't get their scripts for all the sets done before they started since things they seem to get progressively better.

Totaly wacky!!! The best HK set i've ever bought. Despite the age of this show the video is just perfect. Very nice conversion. ^^ Perfect!

Audio:

MI risked a lot by converting a mono serie in a stereo but fortunately there were no side effects of it. Very good conversion.

Subtitle:

The subtitles are incredible. Despite some mispelling errors in the name of the characters like Korin (for kuririn) and Yincha (for Yamcha), the subtitles are almost perfect! Totaly understandable.

Comment:

Congratulations MI. This set is perfect for an HK set. Buy it you like DBZ. The show is excelent and this set very cool. I just think that MI should have put a little more effort on the dvdbox. The images suck, but whatever, nothing can be perfect and the dvds totaly compensate this failure of MI. To conclude, the menus are really really good. totaly animated with awesome videos. =)
