Clean-ish (I agree with other reviewer that probably LD sourced). Some over-compression artifacts on high activity shots (particularly explosions)
Audio:
No complaints

I'd classify it as average. For this many episodes, I never really had any problem understanding it, and Japanese names were fortunately used throughout. There were some odd translations that I encountered. My japanese is pretty limited, and pretty well limited to table/meal type conversation, and one early episode had Ohta drinking something from a can and pretending it was Tea. It was beer. As all were leaving, Noa comments "O-cha janai" which means "that ain't tea", but the subtitle was to the effect that "I don't want any tea" (going from memory here). Also, the last episode (a making of) didn't have subtitles at all. Didn't really bother me though.
Comment:
A great series with a lot of great characters. I really admire the whole premise of a world where the mechs are secondary, and part of society, to the point where the maintenance team, commander and carrier crew are an integral part of the story, not something hidden behind the scenes.
