I found flaws in all three categories of review on this DVD set. Video - 3/5 The Video is really really block on motion scenes (which basically account for all the cool scenes in the show). They put too many episodes per DVD, plus they decided to keep all the opennings and endings, so the amount of wasted space increased. The video was squished a little too much per disc, and they also decided to ration the video out in a bad way, so that thet could use 3 DVD-9s, and a DVD-5. Overall, the video isn't really well done on this set. Audio - 3/5 The Audio is is ok, but still sounds compressed. Nothing to shout about, the audio seems really really dull and kinda muffled. When you get to the last two episodes, the audio is way off sync by a second or two. This alone makes watching the last two episodes a pain in the ass, and knocks the point down a notch. Subs 3/5 The subtitles reeked on this set. They're obvious AC ripped subs (as there are e-mail addresses on the subs, and the e-mail address just turns out to be one of AC's many different e-mail addresses). The translation itself is on the nose (which may sway you to buy the MI/AC version), but there are TONS of unsubbed lines all over the show, and some of them get pretty lengthy (10+ minutes in the early episode), and there are 2 entire episodes that have Chinese subs in place of the english subs. If you are watching this on a TV, it can be a pain to have to read a script along with watching the movie. This set just isn't that good, I would definately reccomend that you get the MI/AC set instead of the AS version. This set just isn't worth it. With as many errors, and screwy things wrong with this set, it's much more worth buying the MI/AC version. edited by kakomu on 07 Jun 2002 8:30 pm

Adding to my previous review, I found that some episodes throughout the series did not have any english subs at all. Both the English subtitles were switched to Japanese subs and seeing so much Kanji onscreen at once was giving me a headache.

last two episodes of my fourth disc the audio was off by about 15 seconds and on my first disc two of my episodes were in only chinese. Other than that I could live with it.

I like Gundam Wing, I really do. But this set really wasn't what I hoped it to be. The first problem I ran into on this disc was that the subtitles would not stay in English, they kept switching over to Chinese and refused to change back. This was on Disc 1. Also on Disc 1, one of the later episodes has about a minute of distortion where the screen distorts and freezes, allowing the audio to skip ahead for a few seconds before freezing. When it gets passed the distortion, the audio is out of sync completely and is a minute or so behind the animation. Discs 2-3 would have the audio out of sync every few episodes but Disc 4, consisting of only 5 episodes, had every episode out of sync by about 30 seconds. The subs on this release are excellant, The names are spelled correctly, and the grammar is great. Like the subs, the video quality great most of the time, seems to be ripped from a dvd source. The audio would be great if it weren't out of sync. Another thing that really bugged me was that they shoved about 15 episodes into each of the first 3 dvds, which were Dvd-9. The 4th disc only has 5 as mentioned before, the disc itself being a DVD-5. If you can go without sound, and shrug off the few times there is video problems, this set is for you. Otherwise, try the other set.
