Video:
The video quality was pretty good despite dull colors and some grainy spots. Easily shown it was made over 20 years ago. Those who's seen more common movie version of this series might get somwhat disappointed by much inferior quality of the drawing. The main chracter Tetsuro looks much simpler and rounder in the series, while female main characeter Maetel looks about the same.
Audio:
Only Japanese dub. It sounded fine through mono TV speakers. Only used TV speakers because it sounded a little hard and artificial through stereo system. In this case, the less is more.

Comment:
The package was pretty lousy, even though looks quite nice. Fell apart the second time discs were taken out. This collection contains Episodes 17 thru 36. Unfortunately, the entire series has over 100 episodes and the rest of the series is not availble. If you wanna see the ending, you'll need to get 'Galaxy Express 999 the Movie' which is a truncated story of this original series. Adieu Galaxy Express 999 picks up where this series left off, which is unnecessary in my opinion, since the series concluded nicely and didn't need a forced sequel. This collection is not the greatest, since I think later episodes were more interesting and not available herel. If you are interested in watching or collecting original Galaxy Express 999 series, this is not bad to have.
