REALLY good, especially considering this series was done in the mid- 80's.

The series starts our GREAT! But somewhere along the way they got really confused. They switched the last names between the 2 main families and they kept changing Harada's name. Sometimes they called him something Chinese (as well as doing that to other characters), sometimes thay called him by one of the twins' names, and they mostly tried to get by by just calling hiim "him." Very odd. Also, episode titles were off.

Comment:

Story is engrossing. This series was a HUGE hit in Japan, and it's because the story's so good. No explosions, robo-suits, psychics, etc. Just a good old-fashioned story about people.

Video's okay. Don't expect too much from a 20 year old show. Some artifacts do show up during movement.

Audio:

The show's audio is old and bland, but lends it some style. In terms of quality, I'm not dissapointed.

Subtitle:

This hurts. Watch out, because I bought an MI set and it was defective: its missing the ENGLISH subtitles! I could get a replacement, but the extra shipping fees aren't too "happy happy" with me. The Chinese subs, however, are decent, although it seems to be with some kind of old-style dialect and they mistranslate here and there.

Comment:

I also have Parts 2 and 3, but this is a review of my defective Part 1 set. Shame on MI!

Looks pretty good for an old show like this. The color on some of the episodes looked a liitle bit washed out but most looked real good.

Audio:

No problems here!

Subtitle:

The subs start off pretty good but later on there is lot of grammar errors and weird sentence phrasing, but you will have no problem following the storyline. They are perfectly understandable.

Comment:

Great series so far. I really recommend this if youre into KOR or Maison Ikkoku. Im gonna start watching the second boxset and I'll post a review once Im done.

For a show of this age, its amazing. No discoloration, no problems. Looks like a LD copy of the show.

Audio:

Occasional buzzing during crowd shouts, but during the absolutely silent parts of the episodes, there is no noise (as it should be if you've seen the show, the silence says more than words during those episodes)

Subtitle:

Very good subtitles. Occasionally on disk 2 they change to the Chinese version of a few characters names (only one very important one). Also, long dialogues often miss parts of the words, but the jist can be gotten quite easily.

Comment:

This is the best example of sports anime IMHO. The storyline for the first 26 episodes sets up the conflict for the remainder of the series. Without giving too much away, Tatsuya and Katsuya are twin brothers who live next door to Minami. They were friends as they grew up, but the twins no realize that Minami is a woman they are in love with. Katsuya is a baseball pitcher and is known as one of the best in the country. Tatsuya hates conflict so he refuses to try at anything his brother does, but by not trying at anything he worries he may have fallen too far behind his brother to ever catch up.
