Reviews for Petshop of Horrors

Video:

The video quality is good didnt notice any problems.

Audio:

The audio for this set was decent the dub wasn?t phenomenal but it does the job. The sound quality was also very clear.

Subtitle:

The subs were very clear, easy to read, and easy to understand.

Comment:

This is one of those sets that are only worth getting if you can get it cheap or for free (which is what I did). I wouldn?t go out of my way to get this set personally. But other than that I really can?t recommend it although it is quite original and that?s the main reason it enjoyable but this is one title I don?t see myself watching for quite a while.

This is a rather good transfer for the original master, you can tell it probably was taken from a VHS, but the little pixilization is almost nonexistant.

Audio:

The audio it clear, I didn't notice any errors, The music sound quality is good also

Subtitle:

no complaints for what I saw of them

Comment:

Petshop has a very episodal TV horror show feel to it. The title reminds me quite a bit of the original Creepshow movie. It does have its lighter side. The Counts sweet tooth is rather funny. It only has 4 episodes which suprises me. It seems like a series that could of been extended to at least a 13 episode. But eather way this is a nice little title that is an interesting chage from the anime norm

No major problems here, but definitely nothing to write home about. I'm not sure what the source was like, but I don't think anything the video is lacking is the fault of the transfer.. but more likely this is what the source video was like as well. Above average, but certainly not at the top of the scale.

Audio:

Again, no problems here, but nothing overly exciting, either. The japanese and english tracks both sound fine, and there are no soundtrack problems. The volume difference between voice tracks was minimal, so shouldn't cause any concerns.

Subtitle:

Great. No problems with the subtitles at all. These are -not- dubtitles, and the grammar, spelling, and timing is all great. Easy to read, as well... good choice of text coloring.

Comment:

This is a really 'neat' little series. If you enjoy shows like The Outer Limits, Tales from the Crypt, the Twilight Zone, etc, etc... then you should enjoy this show. There are some really neat creatures portrayed, and the tragic stories are entertaining, and in a couple of cases, rather original. So long as you're a horror fan, you're not going to go wrong with this title. Recommended. Review Hardware: Polaroid PDV-0700 Portable DVD Player

A tiny bit of pixelation but, besides that, pretty much perfecto!

Audio:

Haven't listened to the English dub, but the Japanese is perfect, no off sync moments or drop outs or anything. For those who want a comment on the dub, it's 5.1 and there's also a commentary track with the VA's or ADR or someone...

Subtitle:

Only 2 parts where the subs are missing, but my friend has the R1 and said it has the same prob, just switch over to the dub for those parts and you won't miss any of the story. The subs are thick and white with black borders for those who care. Your eyes don't hurt after watching it or anything!

Comment:

The packaging is the same as the R1 and has the R1 company's name who licensed it on the front also. I bought this show based on a trailer I saw on one of Ninja Scroll TV's discs. It really makes you think. The first episode is about a family that wants to be perfect. Part two is about a betrayal, part 3 is about a washed-up actor, and part 4 is about a holy beast. This is really great stuff, don't get me wrong if those descriptions turn you off from a great show!

Not perfect but good, no pixelation.

Audio:

The english dub is rather corney and just doesnt seem to sync with the characters very well. But the Japanese dub is great so I give it a 5.

Subtitle:

A few dropped lines here and there, not perfect but good.

Comment:

This is an entertaining little series that will make you wonder about some of the stories. It does contain scenes of death and minor nudity, its more pointed at the teen to adult range than at children and would probably just scare or confuse anyone preteen (like it did my little brother). Anyone else should check it out..

both versions are great

Subtitle:

great subtitles no errors at all at least I didn't find any!

Comment:

it's too bad they only made 4 episodes because this would be nice to see more of it. each episode is unique in it's own way and through it it's sometimes funny becasue of the petshop owner and the detective that keeps coming back to him for answers regarding her pets lol I recommend it highly

R1 ripped. Clear, no pixelation.

Audio:

Only listened to Jap dub. No problem found. This title also has 2 Eng dubs.

Subtitle:

English sub. Have no problem understanding the plot and story development.

Comment:

Despite it is only comprised of 4 episodes, each eps is uniquely captivating as the other. The story of each episode consists of a tale of fragile human emotion, much like the style of the "Vampire Princess Miyu". Personally I like this title alot. Each story is simply mesmerizing.

R1 rip. No problems here. It's not Absolutely Fantastic, but i read that the R1 wasn't really amazing.

Audio:

Includes English Dubbed track (5.1 !) and Japanese . Also includes a Audio Commentary track in English , but oddly you can't choose it with the menu ! You'll have to change to with , using your DVD Audio Button (English Track 2 ch)

Subtitle:

I think there are something like 3 missing lines...i doubt they were missing in the original R1 release. So i can't give it a 5.

Comment:

R1 rip basically.
