I was impressed by the video on this set. I didn't notice any errors at all with this one. The colors and shading look really good. other then a few of the darker chase sequences neer the end of the film this one looks neer perfect
Audio:
Audio and music sound great on this set. There is a couple parts of the movie you need to turn the volume up alittle to hear what is being said but no problems otherwise

Comment:
You get alot of bang for your buck on this set. not only do you get a pretty good film that is 170min in itself but you get a second disk that has the minipato short on it. If you like the whole crime drama type thing you will really like this film. The film is in DD 2.0 16:9 MPEG2 HI-FI Stereo. This is definately a worthwhile pick up

The film is in widescreen (although I didn't watch it on a widescreen TV) and of top-notch quality. I almost hate to say it but, with the exception of the appearance of the MI logo + email addresses, the video is perfect. As with the other Patlabor films, the detail is incredible and the cityscapes beautiful. This is shown to great effect in the scenes when the detectives are making enquiries - no dialogue, just the city and Kenji Kawai's stunning soundtrack. In keeping with the previous films the SV2 crew have been given a 'serious' makeover, so Noa has lost the cute, big-eyed look of the TV series - it's a different 'universe' anyway. Tested on a Pioneer 636 (RGB output) + QED RGB SCART (video only) + JVC 4:3 TV.
Audio:
Options for Japanese 2.0 or 5.1 - no English language. I watched using 5.1 and the sound is clean and crisp. The film is not one to go audio overboard - it is often subtle but always used to great effect. As I mentioned earlier, the soundtrack is fantastic. It's practically 'chillout' music and flows just behind the action on screen - it never drowns out the action, but you are always aware of it - and is an essential ingredient to the film.

Very nice case with artwork, including discs, and 'soft' plastic disc hubs/holders. Menus are not in English, but easily navigable. The film is packed with extras - making of documentary, trailers, teasers, etc, - and they are all subbed! Okay, the DVD is technically excellent- fantastic video, sound and subs - comes with lots of goodies. However, I found the actual plot less absorbing than Movies 1 & 2 and, at times, ordinary. Perhaps it's because there is very little of the SV2 crew featured except at the end - even less than the previous films. I'm not moaning about the lack action but, in my opinion, there is that Patlabor 'ingredient' missing from this feature. This doesn't mean I'll never watch it again, it's still a good film. Of course, the big 'extra' with this set is Mini Pato, which comprises of three shorts made with a mixture of 2D and computer animation - sort of like South Park, but much more distinctive. It looks great! These are almost like animated encyclopaedia entries rather than 'cartoons' - the first concerns the Labor weaponry; the second anime robot history; and the third dips into the secrets of SV2. These aren't subbed as well as the film and, although interesting, drag a bit despite being brief. There Mini Pato extras, which look at how the shorts were animated and even an in-depth look at how the opening theme was composed and sung. Overall, an excellent set and unmissable at this price (who knows what this would cost as a R1 Special Edition?)
