Video: This has the look of recompressed video, but unfortunately I don't have the actual R2 to compare to. The colours look muted when compared to other Macross I've seen (such as the Macross 7 R2s, my Dynamite 7 VHS, etc.) and there's a lot of grain over everything, including CG scenes which really shouldn't have any. I can understand there being some on things like the original OP/ED sequences, but don't on things like the Dynamite openings which were 100% digital. MI's ugly interlacing also rears its head again, and I couldn't find a version that looked RIGHT, even when I tried all the de-interlacing functions on WinDVD, so shimmering abounds. Jaggies abound as well. This shouldn't be happening, as there's barely 65 min. of video on this disc, which more than easily fits a DVD-5 without problem. The bitrate's plenty high too, with ~4,1GB of 4,7 available are used. Thankfully, there are no email addresses or watermarks on the disc. The majority of the disc is 4:3, but the DYRL segments are anamorphic widescreen and look significantly better than the rest of the disc. I wouldn't say it's unwatchable or really horrid, though.

Audio: Another reviewer said that the sound levels were too low. I found the sound to be flawless on my headphones. This is a 2.0 mix with quality stereo. No problems here.

Packaging: Not much going on here. This comes in a clear keepcase with a copy of the Japanese cover. The reverse side of the cover is just the front again on both the left and right, but very blurry on the left. Content: Let's start off by going through exactly what's on the disc: History of Macross Mini-Documentary (Subbed) Macross Zero Trailer (Subbed) Macross 3D Trailer/Demo Reel (Subbed) Macross Plus Movie Trailer (Dialog Subbed) Macross 7 Movie Trailer (Dialog Subbed) Macross Clean OP/ED Macross Clean SD OP/ED Macross 2 Clean OP/ED Macross 7 Clean OP/ED1/ED2 Macross Dynamite 7 Clean OP1/OP2/OP3/OP4/ED VFX/2 PSX Games Clean OP (J-Dialog Subbed) DYRL Saturn Game Clean OP Original Macross Toy Ads (Hasegawa) Macross Plus/DYRL Toy Ads (Yamato) New Hasegawa Valkyrie Model Kit Ads Video Game Ads Macross DYRL Original Trailers and Ads As you can see, this isn't exactly a disc aimed at the casual fan, but rather the Macross otaku. If you like the franchise, this is a great disc, and it's worth the cost just to have all the clean OP/ED footage. If you aren't familiar with Macross, this is not the disc to start with, as it's taken for granted that you've already seen it all before. One small gripe is that the DYRL stuff is hard to find, I can only get to it on my DVD-ROM by starting the program and then choosing the title menu option. Also annoying is that the Macross M3 opening animation is missing. The game may have sucked, but the opening CG and music were darn cool. Chapter Stops: For the most part, everything is chapter stopped by segment (chapter for OP, chapter for ED), but Macross Dynamite 7 loses out as all four openings are stuck on one chapter, making it difficult to jump between them. Overall: This is a fun disc, and worth the money that I paid for it. It's unfortunate that the image quality isn't a bit better and that the subs suck, but you get what you pay for, and with the original Japanese disc long out of print, it's this or nothing. Recommended for fans who weren't able to get the R2.

I was skeptical coming into this DVD, knowing nothing about it. The video i must say is awsome, i only noticed minimal pixilation in some of the CG action seqences on this set. You get a standarg Manga logo upon startup.
Audio:
As far as i heard, crisp and clear. Altough sometimes that audio can come across to soft, and almost unable to hear. Think of listening to your TV at 3 out of 10 volume.

Overall, this is a outstanding DVD to own if your a fan of macross. A section of the DVD has openings and possibly all the endings of every macross series you can think of, which is great for a collector. Not to mention a look at macross zero, and other little CG shorts that will make you go wow. Its only a 10$ dollar purchase. Pick this up if you a macross head!
