Reviews for Full Metal Panic Volume 1

The video quality is okay, obviously ripped from DVD, as already mentioned. Occasionally, some objects were a little grainy, especially distant, detailed objects such as faces. However, that isn't too annoying and it happened more often (if not exclusively) when watching the DVDs on a computer monitor. The quality on a TV screen was fine.

Audio:

Dolby digital. Nice stereo effects and clear, crisp sound. Nothing more to say here - it's alright!

Subtitle:

Apart from the occasional typing error and missing line, the subs were great. No complaints.

Comment:

This set is really neat. There are 14 episodes (of 24) on two discs. The packaging is nice as well. However, as MI has also released the complete show on a three DVD set, this one is more or less obsolete. Getting yourself the complete set instead of this one would be the wiser thing to do... The show itself is alright, with a good start and slightly deteriorating quality - there is less humour and more mecha battles in the later episodes (which of course isn't a bad thing if you happen to like mecha shows). In the end, I didn't really regret watching this show, but it made no big impression upon me whatsoever. Good entertainment, nothing more.

***NOTE***- I Have the Full Metal Panic COMPLETE set from MI, which is not listed. Don't let the screenshots I'm posting fool you, this set is DVD quality throughout. It's just that I'm on 56k and I don't feel like wasting all my time uploading stuff so I bumped the image quality down :P I'm just putting screens up so people can see the sub quality actually. I don't remember seeing any watermarks or anything, the video quality was great.

Audio:

No problems that I noticed, then again I'm not really an audiophile.

Subtitle:

Subtitle quality was very good. Of course there are some misspellings and weird sentences but what would a HK DVD be without those :) If you have any common sense you can figure out what they meant in about a millisecond. I think all the characters' names stayed consistent throughout the series, except for Gaul. They had a couple spellings for that.

Comment:

Well this is a great HK DVD to buy if you like this series, I recommend it to all. All things stated in this review are from memory, as I haven't watched this set in a bit. Take it as you will. Just know that you shouldn't hesitate if you are considering buying this set.

Excellent video, must be a DVD rip.

Audio:

No problems here, thankfully.

Subtitle:

Probably copied from fansubs, as they're excellent all-around. Occasional typos or missing words or incorrect tenses, but I've seen fansubs with these problems too, so it may be from the source material.

Comment:

A great set, but too bad MI screwed people over who bought the 2 disc set having episodes 1-14 (the other part 1 set has 1-16) by releasing a third disc with 17-24 that's not sold separately. As for the show itself, I love it when it's serious, and the animation looks great, but there's plenty of filler episodes and the humor can be too silly and over-the-top.
