Overall:
Video:
Video is decent there is some problems with pixelation in high action sequences, but everywhere else the video is fine. The colors are very vibrant not flushed out.
Audio:
I didn't hear any problems with the only audio track Japanese. It is in Japanese Audio Stereo 2.0, but so is a lot of Animes/Movies
Subtitle:
The subtitles were okay for the most part. There were a couple of sequences where some words were misspelled, but you never have to stop to ask yourself what just happened?
Comment:
Overall I liked this series. It's one of those series you never know if it'll come out here. Pretty funny too! The major gripe I had was with the final two eppisodes which are alternate eppisodes. I didn't know they were alternates until I read on a forum that they were. Now I understand them fully. Funny stuff I'd recommend picking this one up.

Video:
While this is clearly a DVD rip, it suffers from overcompression in the high action sequences, to the point where you see blocks of pixels before the image. A good example of this is when Mamorou is spinning around in his combat suit towards the end of the opening theme. The rest of the time, though, this set is more than watchable. Colours are bright and vivid, movements are smooth (and should be!), and it's all way nicer than my 60MB DivX encodes. It should be noted here that EDF, despite being a 13 episode TV series produced at one of the biggest crisis points in the anime industry, has feature film cel counts for each episode (yes, EDF was hand drawn and painted), and looks incredibly NICE as a result.
Audio:
Audio is 2.0 DD Stereo ripped from the R2 discs. Nothing fancy, nothing bad. The audio doesn't have weird echoes or get hot or anything, but it's nothing extraordinary either.
Subtitle:
Not as bad as I feared they could be, but they could have been so much more. The subs are always understandable, and most names are spelled correctly (only weird ones are Dai is Tai, Haruka is Haru, and Hen is translated as Strange). The subber had a couple issues with currencies (they fluctuate between using yen and, more often, dollars), so be on the watch for that. Otherwise, grammar. Bleh. There's lots of particles left out and a few word choice problems (choose/shoes), not to mention a number of oddly conjugated verbs. While you won't be scratching your head trying to figure things out (subs are for the most part unnecessary until episode 11), you WILL have to fill in more than a few blanks while watching.

Menus: 4.5/5 Menus are in English, composed of still images, and easy to follow. Disc 1 is Play All/Chapters/Subs, Disc 2 is Play All/Chapters/Subs/Extras. Chapter Menus are a bit of a pain, you first select your episode and then it takes you to a sub-menu with 2-3 episodes and their chapter breakdowns. None of the episode names or chapter stop lists are in English. Each episode has 5 chapters (OP/A/B/ED/Preview). Content: 4.75/5 I love this show. I watched it all from 60MB DivX raws when it aired, and if I could afford the R2's I'd buy them in an instant. For the uninitiated, EDF is a show about a dysfunctional family chosen by an interstellar federation to protect the earth as a sentai team. Unfortunately, the family is on the brink of divorce, Dai (the younger son) is being a deviant at school, and Nozomi is ready to do away with all of them since she is forced to do all of the household chores. Once given their task, not only do they have to remain a family for six months before they can opt out, but they also have to deal with the ever-increasing debts created by using super-weapons to defeat the invaders. Funny, charming, and touching, EDF takes an old idea (save the Earth from evil invaders) and uses it to take a realistic look into Japanese family life at the beginning of the decade. This is great stuff, highly reccommended to all. DVD Extras: 5/5 They exist at all, and for HK bootlegs, that's saying something. The second DVD has a bunch of promo ads for the show, all subtitled, and a clean copy of the opening and ending animation. Additionally, the alternative editions of episodes 11 and 12 were included from the R2 discs, so you really get 15 episodes instead of 13. Credit goes to "anonymous_coward" who actually posted this review a while back... I have nothing to do with this review, I just thought that SOME review was needed of this, and found one. I will post my PERSONAL review at a later date (when I get this).
