A quiet, unassuming junior high school student, by the name of Iwakura Lain, does not chatter, gossip and socializing with the rest of her fellow classmates. All remains normal, for this Ordinary girl, until something strange begins to happen. Strange e-mails are received by several girls at her school. But what makes these e-mails odd is that a dead classmate who had committed suicide one week earlier supposedly has sent them. Out of curiosity, Lain responds to the e-mail she receives and begins to contact this person, she learns of the wired world and how it works. Gradually advancing further into this new world she questions reality, as her life is drastically changed into a reality that no one could have thought to exist. <br />
