Reviews for Cyborg 009 TV Series Part 2
Video:
Audio:
Subtitles:

Overall:

Video:

Video is the same as Part One. All the episodes are TV rips again. I don't think the series has DVDs with these episodes in Japan even. But they are great TV rips, with, again, the only noticeable defect is that black lines aren't as sharp as they could be.

Audio:

Sound comes across very crisp and clear. No distortion at all. Audio is perfect.

Subtitle:

Subs are the same type quality as disc three was in the first set. All names are correct, but they still have the funny spelling due to direct translation. Like Skull is Sakul. Or Francois is Faraonsiwa. But the correct names are used, so that's good. The translation is great. No Engrish at all. Just, again, sometimes they choose funny words or over simplify words. Example, someone could say "I'm going for revenge!!" and they might translate it as "I'm going for get back!" or something like that. But it's still easy to understand, and won't detract from your viewing.

Comment:

This set contains the final episodes of the series. It has up to episode 48, and then has the three specials that aired. The first special happens between episode 47 and 48, and is a recap of what's been happening in the undeground empire. I think they made it because episode 47 was very poorly made. The last two specials are very funky. There called "Conclusion to the God Wars." They are after episode 48. They are wierd, because some how, Dr. Gilmore from the anime meets with the guy who wrote the manga and they talk about the future of the manga. Why did they do this? I think because the manga writer died before he could finish the comic, so it was left open. Episode 48 is the original ending for the manga, but then, after recieving many threatening letters, the author decided to continue it. So he kept writing and then, saddly, passed away before he could finish the series. These two specials are what would've happened if the manga continued. They are very wierd though because if you haven't read the manga, you won't know what's going on. New character's are around, new costumes, etc. But they are still fun to watch. Now, before I get to the discs themselves, I have one complaint about the series: JOE AND FRANSCOISE NEVER GET TOGETHER!!!!! I swear, the whole series you are expecting these two to hook up. Near the end, it's almost blantantly obvious they will, but they never do!!! It was a real let down to me. They would've made a great couple. OK, now for the discs themselves. The discs hold 10 or so episodes each. Each one, like disc 3 of the first set, has the opening, ending, and next episode preview for each episode! No eyecatches present again. I really don't know if the show had them or not. But, before and after some episodes, it says the sponsors of the show, like on TV. Two episodes even have a 009 commercial in them. Just think of it as extras ^_^ This set had no MI logo at the top or email addresses. None at all, unless I didn't catch them. That will make some people happy. This set has two new endings for the show. The second one is a song called "Starting From Here" and has two different animations for it. The third, which comes on the last 10 or so episodes, is called "I Do" and is done by another group altogether called Fayray. The second song is subbed, and so is the third, but the third is sung in English so it isn't really neccesary. I'm very gllad they had endings for each episode as both all the ending themes used in this series are beautiful. Especially the third, with it's very good ending animation. For the two God's War specials, it says the ending them is "I Do (special edition)" but it sounds exactly the same. Has a different animation for it, too. The opening song stays the same the whole series, but some changes to the animation happen for it. near the end, the animation is clips from the previous episode. A nice little recap. That pretty much covers everything. This show is probably the best anime I've ever seen. And it has one Hell of an ending I can't get over. If you though Cowboy Bebop's ending was gut wrenching, wait till you see this one. I can't recommend this anime enough.
