VERY nice, for the most part. I noticed none of the problems mentioned by BeardFan or any of the other people in this department.

Audio:

Sounded great on my friend's 5.1 system.

Subtitle:

Pretty good fansubs, there are a few problems (mistimed every once in a while, says weird things like "oops" instead of "yes"). But definitely fansubs, as it says "this episode not for distribution where liscenced" at the beginning.

Comment:

NOTE!!!!!!!!! : My copy *also* has the problem at the end of the disc with skipping. After inspecting the disc surface, I noticed a small imperfection in the reflective surface, and assume that it was just due to a crap disc. But other than that, this is MAGNIFICENTLY well done, in my opinion (after all the TV rips I've been subjected to recently).

Seems to be LD-rip, because you can see a small line of distortion at the very top of the screen. But that's not the problem. There are flickering lines like shadows all over the screen. And the translucent green bars are also there. Don't know if they caused the flickering or if they are independent faults. The effect is that it looks like a TV-rip. Very annoying. At first I really believed it was a TV rip, but it isnt. MI surely screwed up the transfer and encoding somehow. Added to that, I had problems playing the beginning of episode 9.

Audio:

No problems, apart from the problems in episode 9.

Subtitle:

Fansubs. Very good, with occasional typos and some mistimed lines.

Comment:

Like the last reviewer, I also had problems playing the beginning of the last episode. I also heard of another person that had the same problems, so probably a whole pressing run (or maybe all discs) could have this error. This series itself is some kind of melancholic version of Love Hina. Very nice.

The video was very crisp until the last episode (The first 3 minutes froze continually, but after that it played fine). I do not know if this was just my version, because I watched all 9 episodes in a row and the DVD player was overworked, or that this problem will occur for everyone. The audio was great (except for the freezes in episode 9) The subs were great translations but had the occasional typos. I agree with the first reviewer that these were fansubs because one of the later episode states something like "Buy the licensed version when it comes out." The content is really cute. The character designs are excellent. Much time is spent on character development (which I strongly approve). Each episode builds on earlier themes but is complete in themselves. I would put this in the romantic comedy section, but many of the topics contain a fair amount of drama. The last episodes ends at a good stopping point, and I believe that there are only 13 episodes in the series.

Title: Kanon Eps: 1-9 Studio: MI Menu: In Chinese, so I couldn't understand them. But they're animated and have music playing. Standard fare, selection-wise: Play All, Subs, and Chapters. Chaptering: Prologue, Episode, Ending Credits. Video: Crisp and bright, but there's some black lines in the background that aren't really noticeable unless you look closely. It's not perfectly clean, but fairly close. There's some glitching here and there. Audio: Sounds like standard HK fare to me. Subtitles: Fansub scripts used. This pleased me greatly. The translation is spot-on and timing is excellent; barely any typos. Downside: the preview clips are not all subbed, and the first episode does have some dropped lines and mistiming. Also, in episode 7 or so there's a brief moment when the picture freezes (and the break can be scrolled to by the Next button, so it's some kind of f'ed-up chapter break). Bonuses: Textless OP, textless ED, voice-acting studio footage. Overall: Highly recommended set for a romance anime fan. Can't wait until 10-13 are released. edited by bellreisa on 29 Oct 2002 1:31 pm edited by bellreisa on 05 Nov 2002 10:50 am
