This is by far the funniest tenchi series. Too bad the original tenchi characters appear only in 1 episode thats on the 2nd disc. Its great to see a further evolution of what we have known about the Tenchi universe. I'm a collector of tenchi, from all the series to the video games, etc. However having this on my shelves is a disgrace and eveyone should stay away from this release and wait till a good company releases it with good subtitles or wait till Funimation releases the R1 dvds next year. Stay away from it!!!

As a huge Tenchi fan, I was very excited by this DVD release. This DVD contains the first 9 episodes of the 26-episode TV series, & has the original Japanese language with English & Chinese subtitles. VIDEO: Quite good! I have no complaints as it looks quite nice especially for a TV series. AUDIO: Again, no complaints. SUBTITLES: Well, you can't have everything I guess. First, the good - the subs are distinct & synched quite well. The bad - it's obvious that the sub script was written by someone not well versed in the English language. The translations appear to be literal & often make little sense. However, they do the job well enough to get the main ideas across & give you an understanding of what is being said. Great Audio/Video & passable subs are enough for me to recommend this disc to all Tenchi fans. Bring on Vol.2 & Vol.3!!!

Video: 4.25/5 The colors and details for this show looked nice, sharp and crisp, but there is some very minor pixellation during scenes of "intense action" (lots of wacky stuff going on-screen). Audio: 5/5 Again, audio sounded fine. Nothing weird and in-sync. Subs: 2.75/5 Original subs by AV again. Names were there, and punctuation, capitalization, and spelling were nice. Easy to read and understand, but translation and wording seemed even too simplistic/literal and a bit off--they didn't express enough detail in what was being said for me to understand everything of what was going on clearly. Example: In the opening of the first episode, Seina's mom was asking his sister for help because the store was busy and Seina would be home soon, and it's always a bad luck when Seina comes along. The subs express his mom being busy and asking his sister for help but doesn't clearly hint at Seina coming home and how he's a walking disaster and how lucky the store is for closing before he got home.
