This is an R1 rip of the first three DVDs of the Rhino set, which had a restored picture. On the plus side, the picture is very colorful and high quality. On the negative side, the "Heavy Metal War" error and other animation errors present in the Rhino set exist within this set. Furthermore, the occasional dust is still present, but that's a result of the cartoon's age, not the transfer quality.
Audio:
According to the disk menus, the audio is strictly English 5.1 digital, once again because of its source. Rhino revamped the audio for their set to convert the stereo episodes into quasi-5.1 audio. I didn't verify the 5.1 in a 5.1 player, but on a regular system the audio on this set is completely clear. Contrary to the claim on the FX version's box, the language track is not Bilingual and does not contain Japanese.

Comment:
My copy is the FX version (which has a different cover), but the inside DVDs are from the Mac set. My brother and I taped the first season episode "Countdown to Extinction" in Japanese when we lived in Japan, so I've been anxious for some time to hear the rest of the vocal cast for the first season. I bought this set, believing that it would have a Japanese language track and English subtitles as the store web page claimed. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and I will not buy any of the other import box sets. If you own the Rhino set, this import one is nearly worthless since it lacks the bonus DVD and doesn't offer anything new (other than different box art). On the other hand, if you have hunted for the out-of-print Rhino set without any luck and you can't wait for the episodes to be rereleased in 2007, this is a very good substitute.

A good R1 rip, with no real problem. Ok, the video is from a old serie, so it's not up to today's standards, but it's a lot cleaner then any VHS tape's i have seen.
Audio:
English Track only, again the question, if Transformer's has been made for the US only, becouse of the lack of a Japanse Audio Track. It's from a old serie, so the sound is not up to todays standards, but becouse the serie was released 15 years ago the sounds is perfect. Just dont expect current day's dolby 5.1 sounds or something like that :-)
