Reviews for Gundam Turn A - The Movie

Overall:

Video:

Pretty is pretty great, better than the TV series with movie quality animation.

Audio:

Japanese 2.0 and 5.1 I haven't fully listened to the 2.0 track but the surround sometimes drowns out the vocals making them a sound a little too quiet which makes the 2.0 track superior in some areas.

Subtitle:

They are much better than the TV series since they have a better font and barely no engrish but some of the names/terms are still spelled wrong and they sometimes call female characters a he.

Comment:

This actually contains two movies. Turn A Gundam: Earth Light and Turn A Gundam: Moonlight Butterfly. Earth Light is horribly compressed since everything moves at a quick pace and some things are left out (Loran Cehack revealing that he's Moonrace to the Earth Milita, the character Will Game who is the love of Dianna Soreil) although the battles at the end of it were pretty good. Moonightlight Butterfly is much better but I think they jumped straight to episode 38 wheras Earth Light ended at episode 27 because the main bad guy, Gym Gingaham and his mecha Turn X just came out of nowhere. You can't really enjoy these movies without watching some of the UC Gundam series first (Turn A has references ot all the other Gundam shows) and the Turn A Gundam TV series. There's also an extra on the Moonightlight Butterfly disc. A 3 minute interview with Yoyshiyuki Tomino but there's no subs. Access but selecting the last option in "Chapter."

Video is great, probably a region 2 rip. Only reason it doesn't get a 5 is because the picture glitches out once early on in the movie for about 1 second, otherwise perfect.

Audio:

audio is great, with a 2.0 and 5.1 option, no problems here.

Subtitle:

The subtitles are pretty good. The good news is that there is no engrish/chinglish. There are some spelling errors and name mistranslations sometimes, but it's nothing major. The actual translation seems to be about fansub quality. The only real problem with the subtitles is the lack of comma's present, for some reason the subbers didnt bother to put comma's, strange. Otherwise overall the subs are pretty good, so dont worry, its far superior to the tv series.

Comment:

Great movies, decent subtitles, good video and audio, pick em up

slight pixellation around the edges, occasionally and during motion. my eyes are sensitive to this kind of thing.

Audio:

sounds good on the tv speakers

Subtitle:

better than the MI TV series version, but not perfect.

Comment:

its a summary to the TV series, 50 episodes put into 4 hours, that is breakneck speed. you better off buying the TV series. but the movie got some redrawn scene. its the same scene as in the TV but redrawn. some, not all
