This is the MAC version however it is just the AS version with new labels and a nice looking box. It's AS since on the underside of the dvd's you can see the AS dvd codes. Box 1: Video: I believe this is a straight rip from the R1's with no recompression, however it does not contain any extras. Since the R1's of Season one came on 4 DVD-5's and for MAC's version its on 3 DVD-5's and 1 DVD-9 (and they are pretty full. DVD-5's are filled with 4 gigs and DVD-9 with approx 8gigs.) No watermarks whatso ever Audio: Contains both the japanese and english sound tracks, nothing to complain. However the dub just can't compare to the original. The japanese sound track was a tad softer than the english one Subs: Rip of R1's however some lines are unsubbed for some odd reason, could be the fact when they inserted the chinese subs onto the dvd's, oh well. Note: As another poster said, the DVD-9 of box could have some problems for some people. I watched this on my computer, and i managed to play most of the episodes with my Pioneer 105-s, however it got stuck and would not play on. Luckily i tried in in my Pioneer A04 burner and it played fine. Box 2: Video: It is suprisinly good give the major recompression MAC did on these dvd's. Box 1 dvd bit rate was around 8-8.5 mbits whilst box 2 is at tops 4.5 mbits. I didn't see much artifacts as the previous posters has said, however it was a bit blurry now and then. Overall its still good. Btw box 2 does has the anime studio watermarks and i even saw the anime cartoon email address pop up :) Audio: Contains only the japanese sound track, nothing wrong, sounds good so same as box 1 Subs: Ouch, the subs are still R1 ripped however there is a lot more unsubbed lines than box 1, alot more. I'd say from the 4 discs, like maybe 1/16 of the story is unsubbed. Apparently its the same for the chinese subs, so who knows what happened. Overall i'm very pleased with this set. Especially box 1. I personally liked the plot. Even though some people say that season 1 leaves a bad taste in your mouth after you watch it. I'll also put some screenshots up too. Addon: Drats it seems that powerdvd is the only player capable of capturing the subs along with the picture :p edited by zommy on 21 Sep 2002 7:43 pm

the AS version of the MKR part 1 and part 2 are R1 rips, first 17 episode even have english dub, so please dont just assume AS version sucks and posting your 1 line reviews.

Its just an AS-ripp or better say copy of both boxes, 'cos it even contains the AS-logo. So look for the reviews of the AS-version. The first 4 dvds contain ep.1-16 (4/4/4/4) with engl. dub. The last 4 dvds contain ep.17-49 (8/8/8/9) so it's complete! RESULT: the quality is very good, just buy it. edited by animefande on 04 Sep 2002 12:48 am
