Video in this series is excellent!! It's a very recent show, so the animation and colors are crisp and beautiful looking! Everything is sharp, no fading, or anything!! Awesome job here! For the most part. Now, it might have just been my thrid disc, but the video on the third disc gets a little funky. OK, really funky. It starts getting all blocky and freezes, and stays like this for a while, but then continues normally after a while. This happens only for a few moments, and nothing is lost in viewing, but still, it has to be mentioned. Other then that, the video is breath taking.
Audio:
Sound is perfect. No other way to put it. No loss of audio or distortion or anything in it. Excellent job in this department, too.

This show was incredible. I don't know how else to put it. It is a masterpiece, in my mind. If you are looking for a show that can match Cowboy Bebop, then look no further. From the music, to the characters, to the action, Hellsing has it all!! An awesome action anime that had shivers running down my spine from all the kick ass scenes in it!! I highly recommend this to everyone! The DVD specs aren't to shabby either! It's on 3 DVDs. Instead of evenly spacing episodes on it (like 5/4/4) they put about 7 on the first disc, then 3 for the next 2. Wierd, but it doesn't hurt the quality at all. Openings and endings after each episode! Each ending varies in a tiny way on each episode. I skipped them most of the time though, because I didn't really like the ending song much :P THe opening song is rocking though! Next episode previews are intact, but for the most part unsubbed. It's OK though, because they are really silly and wierd, and last less then a minute (30 seconds at the most). Both in this DVD release and the fansub episode, there was no eyecatch. Coincidence, perhaps, that both didn't want to show it, or it could be they don't exsist. I for one don't know. The case, like the screen shots show and other reviews say, are superb too! Lot's of cool art on them. The slip case is a cardboard one with more art on it too! Very well put together set. OK, now my opinion on the subtitles. Yes, they are smaller then you're average subtitles. Maybe about half the size. Is there a problem there? Nope. They are still as easily readable as the other ones. In fact, these are probably better as they take up less screen room. So don't worry, you don't have to squint you're eyes to see them :P I could go on for days praising this show, but to sum it up, EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS SHOW!!!!!

Very nice video. No compression or artifacts that I could see, vibrant colors (when they were present, it's quite a dark series, both figuratively and literally)
Audio:
Great audio. No popping, hissing, or mistimed sounds here.

I have to say something about the case: If you can get a version with art instead of the generic Mac case, go for it. The case is a wonderful, art festooned piece of work, with an art covered cardboard slipcover replacing the typical plastic slip, and gorgeous disc art. The cardboard for the case is a little thinner than the cardboard on my other gatefold sets, but I don't see it being any problem. I've uploaded some (poorly shot) pictures of the case in the image section. EDIT: One thing I thought I'd just mention: The menu The menu has a fairly long intro time (non-skippable), music, and does not have pictures on the chapter select screen. This set is defianately a good choice if you want a copy of Hellsing.

If you're wondering what Hellsing to pick up... stop. This IS the one. Hot DAMN this is the dopest box-set in existance. I don't like Hellsing that much, but this is a damn fine case, with awesome disc content.

Video/Audio: The sound quality is great on my home stereo and the soundtrack is one of the better ones I've heard in a while. The video is pretty crisp but there is some evidence of compression in the colour grades. Subtitles: My biggest complaint about the subs is how tiny they are. I'm glad that I have a decent sized television to watch this on. The translations are adequate. A few phrases don't make sense but nothing major to detract from the overall story. At least the timing is good. One nice thing about this release is that each episode is broken into Open, first half, second half, close, and preview so you can jump past the credits if you want without having to scan and they are there if you want to watch them. There are no extras on any of the discs so all you get is story. Something I found rather odd was the inclusion of Italian subtitles along with the usual English and Chinese. I am kind of upset that they didn't translate the writing at the end of episode 13 at all on this release. At least the MI release has an Engrish translation. Content: This is a very interesting series with vampires as the main characters hunting other vampires. It's easy to see that this is the same team that brought us Trigun but this is a totally different direction for them. Much darker... like the later episodes of Trigun. Definitely worth watching if you're in the mood for something dark. edited by Zagatto on 29 Aug 2002 8:48 pm
