This is the worst set I have. Video: Heavy pixelation sometimes. 4 hours just won't fit onto one DVD (2.5/5) Audio: Not very good. Dull sound and 60 Hz hum. (3/5) Subs: Mixed bag. Excellent R1 Rip for 90% of the series, but in one episode the last 5 min or so aren't subbed and the last 30 min of the last episode are horribly mistimed. But you can watch these parts with the english dub (which isn't very good either). 3/5 This is a rip of the AS version, so the quality of both sets should be identical. edited by BeardFan on 25 Oct 2002 11:09 am

As my title said, this set is good for the price, as this will cost well under $70 from the Pioneer American release. As a side note, the Animation video release of this set turns out to be a ripped version of the AS version (with the AS logo). Video - 3/5 This set has some really really beautiful animation, and on slow, or non-moving scenes the video shows it, and looks really beuatiful, but on motion-intensive scenes, the macroblocks come out a lot more so than usual. That's the only reason this is knocked down 2 points. I do think that this video came directly from the R1 source, so that's why it looks as nice as it does (aside from the macroblocks) Audio - 3/5 I was kinda disapointed with the audio in two ways. The english dub (which is one of the few that I actually like) is out of sync in some areas (in episode 1 it's a whole second or more behind the video, which pisses me off since that's a great episode), and the Japanese Audio is a little muffled. But the redeeming qualities are that the Japanese track doesn't seem to go out of sync that much more often later on, and the Japanese audio isn't that bad sounding. It does in fact sound pretty good, but I was kinda mad that it wasn't taken care of better. Subs - 4/5 The subs and video seem to be a direct R1 rip (but I think the subs were a different color on the R1 rip), which is kinda agitating since they liked putting the subs bunched up in corners, and not the traditional centered text. But since they're from the R1 release, the names are correct, and the subs are very readable. Overall the set is a great buy, as Tenchi Muyo is a great series. If you really want to, you can pick up the Pioneer set for more money, but what it comes down to is whether or not you are willing to get this set which is a little more inferior, but save over $70 on your set, or if you want to go all out and get the R1 set.
