Great rips of the Region 2 DVDs. The video quality is almost as flawless as my Laserdiscs.
Audio:
Nothing at all wrong with the sound, it's perfect to listen to Basara singing. Ore no to kike!!!

I'd say picking up this show is well worth it. Great video quality, great sound quality, subtitles are understandable and don't mess up names. This is especially great for us Macross fans.

Man, I love R2 rips. This is simply astounding looking video. Problems that would plague other releases such as macroblocking, aliasing, color banding etc... simply aren't an issue here. The picture manages to retain it's integrity regardless of the scene and as such, everything remains sharp, defined and smooth. Damn, this is perhaps some of the best visuals i've seen in a HK release thus far. One of the best demonstrations of a video transfer available.

Can't see anything wrong with the audio on this set. The sound doesn't break up and is consistently clear. Darn good audio. One thing though, i've been unable to tell if it's in Dolby Digital or not, since my speakers broke and i'm putting through TV stereo (grrrrr).

Being a Macross fan, I found this series to be totally involving and completely refreshing from existing Macross works, and indeed, other mecha sci-fi in general. With the current legal battle still raging on over Macross rights, this will be perhaps the only chance you will have of EVER seeing this fine series. FX did a fine job with this set, especially with the subs so this set comes highly recommended. Top notch.

This series is certainly different from the other Macross series. I like it, but it is my least favorite of the Macross series. The villains go from boring to pretty cool. The songs are pretty cool too, but after a while you get sick of hearing the same ones over and over. I don't like the design for Exedol, which is the one that was used for the DYRL movie. The only other thing I don't really like about this series is being in the mid 90's, it has that feel of filler eps that have a small importance to the main story, so you just can't skip them. Also, the extras are really nice, except there are no subs, so you don't really know what is going on. And there are a lot of chapter stops for each episode, which I like, but it also can get confusing. Even with it's flaws, I recommend this set to any Macross fan, just don't expect it to be the same as the others. Look for a review for part 2 once I'm done with it.

Video: 5/5 - Appears to be a rip of the R2 dvds, no problems at all. Possibly very minor pixelation during very heavy action, but barely noticable Audio: 5/5 - Sounds great, no problems at all Subs: 2.5/5 - To be blunt, vary from 'ok' to horrible. No timing problems at all and usually have quite understandable grammer. The problem is, it's a very poor translation (typical HK original). Quite a bit of meaning is lost, some translations are just plain not what is being said. One group of episodes (14-18) are horrific. Have a copy of the fansub scripts handy, you'll need it. Extras: 4/5 - There are a number of extras: A Japanese show that was shown prior to Macross 7's screening, music video, and the Macross 7 Plus segements (short animations looking at character backgrounds, etc). Unfortunately, loses one point because none of them are subtitled. A real shame. Overall, it's still a great set and despite having far from good subs, still recommended - looks good, sounds good, has a lot of content. Case is very nice as well.

Video: 5/5 - really great! DVD-quality Audio: 5/5 - no problems, too - superb! Subs: 4,5/5 - In the episodes 14 - 18 there are some grammatical errors and misspellings (just a few)but in the other 23 episodes the subs are really good and gramatically right. A big point for the set is, that each episode has its opening and ending and a preview for the next one. The MI Set has just one opening at the beginning and one ending at the end of each DVD. The extras are great. Some live-clips and background stories for the characters. they are without subs, but very understandable. My opinion: A great fx-Set and because of the fantastic video and audio quality and because of the fact, that all the openings and endings are on the DVDs, I prefer this set, not the one of MI.

Just Finished this set today... Video- Excellent R2 rip of the video, very good Audio- No problems, the only thing to mention is that's it's in stereo Subtitles Excellent subbing by the folks at AV:), mostly well timed, there is some minor engish mistakes in some episodes otherwise they are very good. Some names get mispelled too, but it's a very minor amount nonetheless, not that bothersome. BTW, there are no chinese subs, and if you've seen any AV subs they are the same style-this time they are only in yellow. At one point two names become chinese as well... Packaging- This is a Gatefold package... The front shows the Band Fire Bomber on the front with fire in the background while the back has square pics of the band in the back-it seems a bit too plain if you ask me-on the other hand it looks much better inside, the artwork is great-I thinking the art used is from the R2 dvd covers..nice Extras- Various extras on each of the discs, they mostly consist of music clips, including live performances for two of the songs, and a special on the Macross series that has a interview with shoji kawamori. The other ones deal with certain characters in one way or another...none of them are subtitled:( Menu With each disc it shows the volume number in the middle, and at the top and bottom are the episodes you can select from. The far left shows the episode number and the title(in japanese) of it and the far right the chapter selection, called the music chapter. And on the right on every disc near the middle is a small japanese symbol where you can access the extras. You can start the episode right away by going to the episode titles or simply going to the Music Chapter to go to a particuar part...or go the extras A review- M7 drags on story wise--without spoiling anything,I can say that the concept is wacky, a lot of animation is recycled from previous episodes as well, that kind of annoyed me..I really liked the music however, it is very good-catchy if you ask me:D It is interesting to note through is that the some episodes use the Macross II music one way or another, lol I wil still give this show a chance-as it seems to be getting a little bit better, I ordered part 2, so I'll see it if gets any good past this... BTW, I recently added some screenshots including one of the main menu of volume 1...I will be adding a few more soon... edited by DarkonOmega on 14 Sep 2002 4:44 am
