Overall:

Video:

The video looks like an R2 rip. The colours are rich and a pleasure to view. There are one or two parts where there is some distortion in the picture but those moments are only a few seconds total

Audio:

Great audio. Also sounds like a direct rip. Nothing fancy, just straight forward stereo sound done well.

Subtitle:

Engrish attack here. All the names are the Chinese versions and there is a lot of odd translations with gender being mixed up (he instead of she) as well as tenses being stated incorrectly. The worst episode for subtitle errors is episode 12 where the timing is off by one sentance for the last quarter of the show. To make things more difficult, the font used is white with a drop shadow and not the easiest to read (although I've seen much worse). You can still get the meaning of what's being said in the show if you put a little effort into it. To make things worse, there is the occasional dropped line (not common but still irritating). The only thing that saved these subs from being a 1 is that the timing is actually pretty decent and the meaning of what's being said is in the translation... you just have to think about it from time to time.

Comment:

In spite of the subtitles, I really enjoyed watching this series with my wife. It has some great insights into creating manga as well as dealing with some relationship issues and kids at the point where they are being expected to decide what to do for the rest of their lives. For the price, if you don't mind having to think about what the subtitles actually mean at times, this is a great series. As you can see from my screen shots, there isn't any action, just a good story with some solid charactes.
