Video:
Video on this set is awesome, especially for an older show (mid 80s - early 90s). I'm not sure if it's an LD rip or a DVD rip. I think it's a DVD rip, though, as an R2 DVD set was out a while back and would've been a perfect source to rip from. Anyways, colors are crisp and clear, and there's no pixelation in any high action scenes, which this has alot of (involving motorcycles). Great job in this department.
Audio:
Audio comes through totally clear. I didn't hear any distortion throughout the whole show at all. Soundeffects, speech, everything sounds clear and great.

Comment:
Megazone 23 (pronounced Two Three) was revolutionary not because of it's content, but for what it began. It was one of the first OVAs ever made. One of the first shows that chose to do a limited amont of episodes in order to utilize a budget to make it more high quality. The results were stunning, and a huge wave of OVAs (Original Video Aniamtions, basically, direct to video shows). Now, the shows not to bad itself, albeit a little... wierd. It's divided into three parts, with Parts I and II focusing on Sho, while Part III (both parts, I should say) taking place in the future of the Megazone world, which I won't say anymore as it spoils it for you. It's about as much of a mecha anime as Gasaraki is, meaning don't expect this to be like Gundam or Macross or whatever. There's some robots fighting, but it's far from the main focus of the anime. Though the robot, called a Garland, is pretty cool, being a transformable motorcycle. I'm leaning more towards the series being a Real Robot anime, and not a Super Robot, but I won't get into that here.
Moving on to the discs themselves...
First off, this is apparently a rip of a version done by Indian Video. I haven't heard much about them as apparently they sort of faded away, but from what I have heard, they were a pretty good company. Anyways, either this MI set is a rip by them, or this isn't even an MI set and just a Indian Video set. i didn't see any logos on the DVD case, only in the video.
The case is VERY nice. It's very thin, and folds open to to DVD holders on each side. The inside picture is a big one streching from the left side to the right side. The front cover has some writing on it in pretty good English. It threw me off a bit, as it's the description for Part III, so after reading it then watching Part I and II, it made no sense. Back cover is some pictures from the show, the typical DVD stats at the bottom and that's it. Great packaging. Discs have some nice art them, too, fromt he same source as the gatefold packaging came from.
The episodes are divided as two on the first disc, two on the second. before oyu start shouting rip off, each episode is an hour to an hour and a half long. Part I and II are on the first disc, and both parts of Part III are on disc two. So there's about two to three hours of video on each disc.
There are chapter breaks, luckily. Albiet being very wierd. They are just, I'm assuming, randomly places through out the episodes. You can skip to eighteen minutes into the video, thirty two, etc. Like that. I tried using them, but couldn't see any reasoning behind putting them there, other then just certain time denominations to add them in.
Disc one's menu has the screen split in half diagnoly, with in the upper left corner being the logo for Part I, and the lower right corner being the logo for Part II. Clicking on them brings you to another menu that has the above mentioned chapter breaks. Select the time it has listed, and it skips you right there. Disc two's menu is similar. It starts off with Part III's logo, which stays only a for a few seconds. You can press enter to skip it faster. It takes you to a menu with times listed again. On the right side are times for the first part of Part III. On the left are times for the second part. All the menus had songs playing from the anime.
There are watermarks throughout the anime. Watermarks, as in the comapny doing the DVD has there logo appear in the upper right hand corner. In this case, Indian Videos. It comes and goes though. It's never up there for not even close to a minute, so it isn't to distracting. No email addresses in the video, either.
The show has no opening. The episode, just starts. Seeing as these aren't normal episodes, I wasn't surpised. It does have ending credits, though, which are done the same for all the parts. Part III had opening credits, but no song, and the credits cut between it and the episode, so they aren't true credits. Nice thing though is that the credits at the beginning of the first part of Part III are in English, s you ca check out some people who worked on the show. Got a few from Macross doing this show. It shows, too. No eyecatches in the show, either. These weren't really episodes, more like movies, but it's an OVA so I'm just referring to them as episodes.
I mentioned it in the subtitle part, but I'll say it again here that all songs are subtitled. When there's singing, it's subbed. Even in the end credits. Unless someone is talking, the songs are subbed.
Check this heavily endorsed anime out. It's pretty good. And I'm not kidding about that heavily endorsed part either. Everyone in Part II smoked there own brand of cigerettes. Real brands, too. B.D. smokes Lucky Strikes, just like Solid Snake and myself. They also have Coca Cola cans simlar to real ones, and actually use McDonalds instead of some funky rip off. I'd say check this out if you were a fan of the music from Macross, as the songs are simlar in this one, and it's uite simlar to Macross in other ways. It's plot is very similar to the Matrix's also. Just don't go in expecting a great mecha anime. I personally picked it up because it was in Super Robot Wars D, and after watching it and many others saying this too, it doesn't belong in that game at all. Definetly more of a thinking anime.
Oh, I should also mention the sex. It's very... graphic in this anime. I'm serious, too. Borderline hentai almost. So stray clear of it if that offends you, or keep that in mind if you don't want a parent seeing this. Pretty violent, too, but the violence is far and few between. But when it's there...
So check this show out!
