Video:
It looked a little oversaturated in some areas, but overall its a good clean release. Really nice.... thought I can't tell if its from VHS source or LD source. While LD makes most since, it wouldn't be suprising to find it's from VHS.
Its all very clear though, and the Anime Cartoon logo only appears ONCE the whole movie... towards the beginning.
Audio:
THe audio was clear.... it was good volume.... blah blah blah.
Subtitle:

Menus:
Oh my god... this menu is FANTASTIC! A+ ! It starts with tarot cards flying towards you from the mansion everyone's staying at, with the "DEATH" card lingering on screen. Then it snaps onto the main menu, which has the phantom of the opera's mask on the bottom, with a glow extending to the sides, providing you also with the play and subtitle selections. THe japanese logo is at the top, then as usual, MI/AC picked great scenes to use as the video, matching the music perfectly.
I might add, the music is awesome! THis track is this really strong, chilling action music that I was blown away by. As soon as I saw the menu I immediatly expected to love this movie.
The subtitle menu is also a work of art, but I won't go into detail there. One thing I might add is, they actually MADE the scene with the cards flying towards you, since I didn't see that anywhere in the movie. I can't believe they were that dedicated, and it turned out great!
Packaging:
This comes from the LDs, I believe. Nice shot, not as good as the VHS cover though. THe VHS cover is shown on the back, though. But reduced in size. The back is nicely laid out and interesting looking. The Anime Cartoon logo appears on the front, spine, and back.
The Show Itself
Kindaichi, a teenage whos reasoning skills are beyond match, goes to an opera hotel with his friend Miyuki to watch the actors rehearse before their big opening night. But things go wrong when the enourmous chandlier falls upon one of the actors, immediatly crushing her. This isn't the end, as the murders keep continuing, in ways mimicking the events in the play they're performing, the Phantom Of The Opera. Its up to Kindaichi to solve the mystery before the Phantom strikes again.
The movie itself was wonderful.... with FAR better animation then I'd ever expect of Toei. The soundtrack was awesome! Chilling, mysterious... all that other stuff. It was great.
The movie is exciting and well paced.
Anyone would enjoy this movie, it really blew me away. In so many ways it was great! If you need a good title, this is it, without a doubt!
