Reviews for Shadow Skill TV Complete Collection

Video:

The video is great alll the colours and animation is of a high quality, pretty much perfect, no pixelation of any kind. The annoying company logo appears every so often in the top roght hand corner which is annoying as well as the e-mail address at the beginning of some episodes.

Audio:

The audio is great, the voice actors are fantastic and really suit the characters well, sound effects and music is fine loud and crisp. I really like the soundtrack so thats a bonus as well.

Subtitle:

The subtitles on this set are of variable quality, sometimes they are ok, but then on other episodes they were failry bad, but as HK originals go they are ok, alot better than some I've seen. They change from episode to episode which is wierd. Most of the time the names are fine, but from time time Gau becomes Cau and stuff like that. Some engrish which is to be expected, but at some points there were some letters missing in each sentence.

Comment:

At the moment its one of my favourite series, pitty it did not get a second series because it needs one desperately. I'd recommend to anyone, a fantastic series.

looks like a r2 rip, couldn't notice any pixelization or artifacts though sometimes the colours seemed dim! it might be my TV/DVD set up (panasonic flatscreen and PS2 plus sony 082rt player)

Audio:

slight hissing when subs on second disc appear nothing major! Looks like Dolby 2

Subtitle:

pretty good though there is the spot Engrish here and there and some name changes such as elle to alli but overall good for HK originals

Comment:

Looks like an awesome series from the opening and cover! then stoops to mediocraty then gets slightly better again! Fans of the Movie/Ova beware this is nothing like that, firstly the animation in this if you ask me is alot poorer then the Original, this is a relatively good series but fans of action/violence would be left in the cold and it takes a wild to get into! plus my favourite character Diaz dies :(

The video is great, except every now and then a random frame seems to jump into the movie. It only lasts less than a second, but you can notice it. Other than that it looks great.

Audio:

The audio is all in sync with the movie.

Subtitle:

The english subtitles on this movie are horrible. It's like a different person worked on each episode, sometimes it seems as if different people worked on the same episode. Names are mispelled and sometimes are changed completely. Every other subtitle that pops up has a misspelling on it or is just missing a word completely. I've downloaded a fansub of Shadow Skill and the subtitles are great...I have a very hard time watching this. There are many times I just want to turn off the subtitles and just watch it, I feel as if i could know what's going on more that way. Some of the key information and facts that you learn in the series is also left out or so misspelled/deformed that you can't even piece together what is going on. I must repeat...subtitles are terrible.

Comment:

Well it is Shadow Skill, and right now it's my favorite anime series. I think that may be the only reason I'm able to continue watching this with the horrible subtitles. If you can get past the subtitles then watch this series for sure, it's awesome. Or if you are able to understand japanese or read chinese then try those options instead...english subtitles leave a lot to be desired for

I agree with the other two reviews about the subs only for a few eps. There is a huge difference from ep to ep. Some of them have chinese names (and even these change, poor Gau has at least 5 names) and the subs become horrible "engrish". I had to force myself not to push "open/close". The characters design is sometimes weird, too. They look kinda strange from certain perspectives.

Video 5/5 Definately a r2 rip, couldn't notice any pixelization or artifacts. Sound 5/5 Your standard 2Ch Dolby Digital, very clear and I didn't experience any crackling or hissing. Subs 5/5 I only watched the first few episodes in English subs but they were of extremely high standard (fansubs maybe). The names were correctly translated. Extras N/A None included. Content 3/5 This show is kinda mixed bag, when I watched the opening it looked awesome and I was expecting something similar to Berserk but it didn't turn out like that at all. Basically I couldn't stand those 1-liners that they yell out along with their finishing-move of the episode thingy, it just looked so damn corny. I enjoyed the episodes that didn't involve any finishing moves that actually had something to do with the central plot but those don't really come in till disc2. Overall if you're looking for some serious dark fighting anime then this one is pretty safe to pass up, for those who're looking for something not so serious and can stand cheesy finishing moves might consider checking this series out.
