On this release the video is even better then the previous 2 series. There's no ghosting at all, wich was there in the first 2 sets, and overall it looks a lot sharper since it's Anamorphic widescreen, and overall a newer series.

The only thing that might bother people is the MI logo in the video, once per episode, and the showing of the email adress in the video. This didn't happen in all episodes, but about half of the episodes... most of the times in the ED, but in the last episodes at the start.

GREAT

Buy it if you like the series, overall it's a very good release, and you'll be able to understand allmost all of it.

Too bad the subtitles aren't as good as the first set...

Audio and video are very good, like the previous series. The quality of the subtitles is fairly inexistent and not only you completely lose the subtleties of the conversations, but it even makes the plot confusing and hard to follow. Often entire sentences are reduced to one word that doesn't make sense in the context. To get an idea about this just imagine that they've even misspelled "play" as "paly" in the main DVD menu. The show itself is well done, of course, albeit not as interesting, I thought, compared to the previous two. Being a huge fan of this series I find it hard not to recommend this set, but you're better off waiting for one with decent subtitles.

Video 5/5 Ripped straight from R2 originals, I couldn't notice any flaws. Sound 5/5 Very solid 2ch stereo track, nothing to complain about here. Subtitle 3/5 This is where I got a little disappointed, the Chinese sub butchered the names which was annyoing. I switched over to English and I found a couple of lines went untranslated :( as well, but the general translation is quite decent. The last few lines were subbed in the epilogue with Chinese subs. Storywise I personally enjoyed Sekai no Senki more than Senki2, a riot in a small prisoner planet just can't compete with large scale spaceship battles (there are some spaceship battles but not many in senki2). Those who are interested in the development of Rafiel and Jinto's relationship will not be disappointed though, as it seems to be the focus of this season. edited by arcage on 04 Jun 2002 11:27 pm

Senkai no Senki II is, of course, the sequel to Senkai no Senki, which itself is a sequel to Senkai no Monsho (Crest of Stars). As always, the quality of the series is excellent. The setting of the series changes as we move mostly planetside. The war is going well for the Empire of the Abh, and the empire must turn to the task of governing the systems they conquered through military action. One of those systems contains a prison planet, and it is that system which Lafiel and Jinto must govern as viceroy and vice-viceroy. Things turn sour on planet, however, as the prisoners revolt. Meanwhile, the Human Union advances on the position, which unfortunately has only a skeleton force to defend it... Overall, a very well-timed series. It will grab you and not let you go. This is another series I watched in one sitting while recovering from chicken pox. I think I liked it better than Senkai no Senki (without the 2), overall. About the MI release: Video: 5/5. I don't know how they managed it. I could see no glitches in this one, despite the fact that the second disk hosted 6 episodes. The colors are vibrant, the animation flawless. I don't know why they split it as 4/6 rather than 5/5, but anyhow... As mentioned, there are only two disks in that series, and it's only 10 episodes instead of the more usual 13. However, the video is in *widescreen*, which is the main reason it gets 5/5. Additionally, the ads in the subtitles are gone--they are instead in the screen, towards the end credits. Much less annoying. My hat's off to MI for switching to this way of doing things. Sound: 5/5. No complaints. As usual, my sound setup is nothing special, so I probably can't tell whether it's really high quality, etc. Usual disclaimer. Subtitles: 4/5. The subs themselves are much better than in Senkai no Senki, and they would be as good as in Senkai no Monsho, except that often, you get a long set of text that zips through quickly, followed by one or two words that stick around for a whole second. You have to be a very fast reader, or have the patience to rewind often. I think it's worse in the first few eps.; I either got used to it, or it got better towards the end. Oh, and the names are back to being sensible. It's funny, though, how the three seasons that MI got out have a different spelling for Lafiel (Laphir, Ravel and Lafiel) and Jinto (Ghint, Jin, and Jinto)... Overall: Get it, if you like the series. Even if you haven't seen the series, consider this--but it may be better if you've seen Crest of Stars first. Oddly enough, I think you could manage to skip Senkai no Senki and still understand what's going on in Senkai no Senki II. It's an excellent sequel to the sequel, and I think I actually liked it better than the other two seasons. It's definitely worth your time. PS: I'll second the thought of the reviewer who came before me, though--I wish I knew what the hell was written on screen in Japanese at the very end... edited by bge on 31 May 2002 1:35 pm edited by bge on 31 May 2002 1:38 pm

I love "Crest of the Stars", so I was eager to watch the two sequels "Seikai no Senki", I and II. I received this set first. To correct the information lasted about the AC/MI version of "Seikai no Senki II", this is a two DVD set, and I believe the chapter stops are only for each episodes (4 on Disc 1, 6 on Disc 2). The plot is about the war between the United Mankind and the Abh Empire coming to an end. Lafiel has been assigned as viceroy over a conquered planet, which happens to be a planet for prisoners. Jinto is the vice-viceroy and is sent down to negotiate how the planet will be governed. But what remains of the United Mankind forces are on the way to their location, and the prisoners have obtained weapons and made alliances in order to initiate a violent takeover. The video looks great. It's in widescreen, and the colors look vivid, and the action looks fluid. I didn't notice any pixelation or anything odd. The audio is fine, but I don't have a surround sound setup, so I don't think it's fair to judge the sound from my TV's speakers. It's clear with no noticeable dropouts or distortions, though. The subtitles are really good. 95% of the time they are perfectly understandable, with an occasional awkward sentence. Subtitle mistiming does come up (usually lagging behind), but this does not occur often and corrects itself by the next scene. I guess this happens because this series is so dialogue intensive. Overall this is a very good set to own, recommended. P.S. There is one problem I have with the set. Like many other HK releases, the Japanese text onscreen is not subbed, but this isn't a big deal. However, during the epilogue shown after the end credits of the last episode, there is narration in Abh with onscreen Japanese text but no English subtitles. This isn't a big deal either, but I'd like to know what was being said. edited by btzillaguy on 28 May 2002 8:38 am
