Comment:
Senkai no Senki II is, of course, the sequel to Senkai no Senki, which itself is a sequel to Senkai no Monsho (Crest of Stars). As always, the quality of the series is excellent.
The setting of the series changes as we move mostly planetside. The war is going well for the Empire of the Abh, and the empire must turn to the task of governing the systems they conquered through military action. One of those systems contains a prison planet, and it is that system which Lafiel and Jinto must govern as viceroy and vice-viceroy. Things turn sour on planet, however, as the prisoners revolt. Meanwhile, the Human Union advances on the position, which unfortunately has only a skeleton force to defend it...
Overall, a very well-timed series. It will grab you and not let you go. This is another series I watched in one sitting while recovering from chicken pox. I think I liked it better than Senkai no Senki (without the 2), overall.
About the MI release:
Video: 5/5. I don't know how they managed it. I could see no glitches in this one, despite the fact that the second disk hosted 6 episodes. The colors are vibrant, the animation flawless. I don't know why they split it as 4/6 rather than 5/5, but anyhow... As mentioned, there are only two disks in that series, and it's only 10 episodes instead of the more usual 13. However, the video is in *widescreen*, which is the main reason it gets 5/5. Additionally, the ads in the subtitles are gone--they are instead in the screen, towards the end credits. Much less annoying. My hat's off to MI for switching to this way of doing things.
Sound: 5/5. No complaints. As usual, my sound setup is nothing special, so I probably can't tell whether it's really high quality, etc. Usual disclaimer.
Subtitles: 4/5. The subs themselves are much better than in Senkai no Senki, and they would be as good as in Senkai no Monsho, except that often, you get a long set of text that zips through quickly, followed by one or two words that stick around for a whole second. You have to be a very fast reader, or have the patience to rewind often. I think it's worse in the first few eps.; I either got used to it, or it got better towards the end.
Oh, and the names are back to being sensible. It's funny, though, how the three seasons that MI got out have a different spelling for Lafiel (Laphir, Ravel and Lafiel) and Jinto (Ghint, Jin, and Jinto)...
Overall: Get it, if you like the series. Even if you haven't seen the series, consider this--but it may be better if you've seen Crest of Stars first. Oddly enough, I think you could manage to skip Senkai no Senki and still understand what's going on in Senkai no Senki II. It's an excellent sequel to the sequel, and I think I actually liked it better than the other two seasons. It's definitely worth your time.
PS: I'll second the thought of the reviewer who came before me, though--I wish I knew what the hell was written on screen in Japanese at the very end...
