Very good video. There was one split second of pixelation and a watermark that popped up briefly once each episode. Aside from that it was great.
Audio:
Seemed fine to me. Awesome theme song.

I really enjoyed R.O.D. a lot. It had some great action and was just very original. I would recomend it to anybody looking for a good short "series".

I watched it on my computer, with a 17" monitor. Excellent, with beautiful colors. During the 3rd episone one frame flickered, tho. Ah, as usual they took a perfect video and reencoded it to put their crappy logo and email!! I lowere my vote of 0.5 because of their logo
Audio:
well... what can I say? I wonder how nobody noticed it before me, but they swapped the channels!! I can't imagine how this happened! You can notice it very well on the 2nd episode, when Miss Deep leaves the room you see her walking left and the sound of the door comes from the right! I tried to rip the audio, to check if it was only my setup, but the channels are definitely swapped. Dilettantish. Oh well, you can wear headphones reversed, if you want ¬_¬ I gave 3, but I've been generous, for such an error!

The show is really funny and well done, with very good animation and music. Anyway you are supposed to know the manga to understand everything. As for this MI release... well, my suggestion is to wait for the R1 that's coming out soon or perhaps an R1 rip, unless you relly need to watch it for cheap... This *could* be a perfect 5/5 score release, but they did their best to skrew it.

The video was pretty good, surely a DVD rip. Didn't noticed much pixelation and the colours were good and vibrant. Of course there is the the M logo, and the usual emails...grrrr :)

Well, I grabbed this cux it was cheap and gave it a whirl. Here's what I thought of each thing: -- Video was nice. I didn't see any crazy blurring/bleeding/garbage. Everything was fairly sharp. *EDIT ON SEPT. 11* Goshdarnit. Watched on my friends NICE tv and noted that there is some color bleeding. It looks alright, but... Dang! I *so* wanted this to be the crispest thing I own... Not only that, but later, past the 1/2 way mark, it started to bounce around like it was a VHS... GRR... -- Audio. Audio sounded great on my mock Surround sound system. I'm not too much of an audiophile, though. -- Subs. Actually, they seemed alright. The only thing that REALLY irked me was at the very beginning, when asked who he is, one of the main bad guys replies "wake up, 'kay?" AAARGH!!! It translates to 'a great man' or something like that, says the fan sub I watched. This is important, as the whole thing is about "the great ones" Grrr. Ah well. Oh, and as per the norm (as HKs go) none of the written things are subbed. That's one thing I really liked about the fansub. -- Content was... the usual for an MI release. Abt 10 sec. of music that loop forever (and oh so poorly) at the menu. No X-tras. Yay. (I bought this for 10 bucks and I'm whining. Excuse me while I take myself out back and beat me up). -- Overall it's an alright package. If you wanted to see this, just keep in mind that silly little slip up in the first 5 minutes, and pick this up. edited by ragnorokk on 11 Sep 2002 10:56 pm edited by ragnorokk on 14 Sep 2002 2:20 am

This DVD was a buy on the whim. I had originally bought the Escaflowne movie, and since all of them were in Chinese only, I decided to go with this b/c of all the good things that I have heard about it. I wasn't disapointed in the end, and I really enjoyed the story. The DVD was an ok Transfer with good sound and Pretty good Video, and Subtitles that were of very high quality. However, the disc is only 3.14 Gigs large, and about an hour and a half, so some quality was sacrificed. Video 4/5 The video was decent. There was some apparent compression during low motion scenes, but interestingly enough, the compression is more noticable during scenes of little motion as the high motion scenes seemed very pixel free and very clean. The video never seemed to break into a screen of large macroblocks (however there was a 10 second long interval where scene changes had some glitches). All in all the video is very nice looking, tho I would have preferred they used the whole 4.7 Gigs of this DVD for higher quality Video. Audio 5/5 General Audio Fare, nothing spectactular, and nothing wrong whatsoever with it. Seems to be dead on, with nothing in the Back Gound. Subs 4.5/5 The subs were very good, however there seemed to be a few goofs here and there. For instance, they refer to the bad guys as the English term for the first two episodes, then the japanese term in the last episode, and there are some mistimed, and mistranslated lines here and there (not very often, but still a few here and there). This release is a very good, and safe buy for those interested. Frankly I thought it was a pretty nice anime to watch, however, it is more like an anime than an OVA. most of the breaks seemed as though they could have flowed together without having to make a break for credits. Also, if they were going to do the OVA thing, they could have at least made it an episode or two longer, and helped us with the characters a little bit (since it was a little bit of a shaky start trying to place what exactly was happening). Anyways, i thought that the DVD is worth getting.

I really enjoyed this disc. It was almost flawless if not for the couple subtitle errors. Video: Great video transfer, no noticable artifacting like I've seen in other HK releases. Audio: Excellent Dolby Digital stereo mix. Lots of action coming from the rear speakers on this one as well as good directionality when needed on the front stage. Subtitle: A couple translation errors here and there plus the speed was off in a couple places. Otherwise it's a good subtitle job, the errors were very infrequent.

I really dug this OAV, it had a very cool story and a great set of characters. Plus it's wacky and that's alway's a good thing in my book. Video quality- I have heard a few complaints of "ghosting", but I only noticed this a couple times in the whole DVD, so I don't really see what the big deal is. Anyway in my opinion the video quality is excellent overall. Audio qaulity- Again the audio is great, everything is nice and clear. And it sounds great through my speakers. No complaints here. Subtitles- The subs are pretty much perfect, the missing subs from the FX version are all here. i'm not sure if these are fansubs or not, but they are great. No mis-spelled words, and only a few (2 or 3) very small timing errors. This release rocks as far as I'm concerned. It's a great OAV. pick it up if you don't already have the FX version.
