Reviews for Gensou Maden Saiyuki Movie - Requiem

Absolutely beautiful on my 32" TV. Trying very hard i did find very ocassional minor colour bleeding but otherwise perfect. I thought it was a bit dark at first during the night scenes but i guess it was deliberate. Menu background looks like it was ripped from the R2.

Audio:

Didn't notice any abnormalities. Had 2.1 & 5.1 Japanese tracks.

Subtitle:

I was quite impressed. HK subs but among the best type. I was dreading watching it but i think the same person that did the good JoJo subs did these also. If there was less minor spelling, punctuation & grammar errors i would have given it 5. The errors are not big and you will automatically correct them when you read them. I think they might have used a fanscript as some of the lines seem very professional. Some lines do lack sophistication but are still understandable. Some names & attacks seem to be romanised chinese while some are romanised japanese. While it is a chinese fable "Suen Goku" gave the game away.

Comment:

Some clever plot usage at the beginning and it was enjoyable but it does not excuse the rather poor motivation of the villain but such things occur frequently in anime. I bought mine when it was just released and it came with a nice limited edition postcard! I've not seen the series but i enjoyed this and figured out most of the charas from the legend. I didn't know who the second group were and they seemed rather pointless. Recommended.

This is a great movie that you can watch any time after the first part of Saiyuki. Great special effects. Video: 4/5- Really good, very clear and no shaking or distortions, though its really hard to see in some of the darker scenes. Audio: 5/5- Great quality with no buzzing or humming. Subs: 4/5- Ahhhh subbed like the first set, with all the right names and good grammer. Case: 4/5- Standard plastic DVD case, nothing special. Although the movie has no real impact on the series, its is a good side story. Definately buy if you are a fan

Man, this movie just made me even hungrier for Pt.3 of the series. You can really tell the show's animators (sorry I forget which studio it is) have finally mastered digital animation, this is a far cry from the first season of Saiyuki TV and even from the second season as well. Some of the techniques used (the rain & wind effects especially) are just awesome..... Video quality- Video quality was in my opinion, great. Almost a perfect r2 rip. I say almost because it seems dark in a couple of the nighttime scenes. but that is really only in a couple scenes, so it's no big deal. Audio quality- You can select between 5.1 & 2.0 sound, and the 5.1 is REAL 5.1! It sounds AWESOME! Period. Subtitles- Look like really good HK originals, they get all the names right, but mis-spell them a lot of times. But overall the subs are great. This isa a quality release mos def. Truly a safe buy for Saiyuki fans.
