I watch this series with the chinese subtitles..i find the story understandable..nothing really bad about it. Maybe it's just the english sub that's crappy..I watch this series with my pioneer 525 dvd player on a big screen tv..so everything look good to me..

Pretty disappointing to find that the HK subs were below par, especially when the first set was really good. It's not as good as original subs like One Piece but not as bad as Yu Yu Hakusho. Sometimes the meaning was quite hard to catch but the general gist can just about be figured out. As mentionned, chinese names in place of decent romanji e.g Goku: Wukong. They used the words prolix and vapid so many times I decided to look up my dictionary. Also this habit of putting "what is ... doing on earth" instead of "what on earth is ... doing" is getting boring ~(or vapid, as they like to put it). But the thing is that I don't really regret getting it since the series is really good, and I understood most of it. Sentances that were stupid I tried reading the chinese, but sometimes even they didn't make sense. Overall, this set largely contrasts with the first set. I'd only recommend buying it if you are dying to watch the series, but for its not really collectors material.

REDO...ooops this is for the other set-dvd-163B-E..The Video and Audio on this DVD set was Excellent...I have a 9 stereo surround systen for my room...I'll just let you know....it was sweet...^_^ Sadly, the same cannot be said about the subtitles...I wanted to cry!!! This is the let down part. They really messed up the story. It has messed up sentences like " What happened on earth?" when its supposed to be "what on earth happened?" They have the tenses wrong and they translate the names of the characters..."kou Gaiji" to "Red Child." They translate names like "Kou gaiji" to "red Child" and Goku to " Wuking" or something like that...I think these might be the original names in the real ancient book. but i thought it was uncool...They call Gods "Jinnis" and youkai "genies." NEw characters come in and so you dont really get their real names. When a story or was being told by a character it was hard to understand! In other words the story gets confusing all because of the, pardon the lack of better word, "Shitty." I wouldn't stop you srom getting this because the video and audio quality was the best i've seen from an HK dvd...but the same cannot be said about the subtitles...I say just get the Saiyuki bundle from [www.fx-anime.com] it like buying the oustanding first half of the series for 36 dollars and the "shitty" second half for just 18 dollars...SO YEAH....I say thats the best way to save your money!!!
