Overall:
Video:
What I'd class as very good quality video. The only issues were mpeg artifacts on some explosions (but even the Bebop Perfect Sessions suffers from this, and noone complains about it). I have attached some sample screenshots
Audio:
Nothing greatly wrong with the audio, but there is a low level noise like magnetic tape noise throughout the entire set.
Subtitle:
Above average, in that I had no problems understanding anything. The use of the chinese names for certain characters was very prevalent, especially on the first disc. However, when you get in the practice of "hearing" the names whilst reading, it doesn't get too bad. Some of the less prevalent or new characters get hard to identify though.
Comment:
This version is pretty hard to come by for some reason. It's lineage seems to be from the taiwanese 4 disc set (http://home.kimo.com.tw/mycai97/ka/patlabor/nova01.htm). The series is presented in the original released order, which is somewhat bizarre - the continuous Griffon episodes are intercut with stand-alone episodes and this frankly makes it confusing - with one episode ending with everyone rolling out to fight, then the next episode about a Kiddies TV show that got cancelled.
