LOL, it is sad, but I can tell you where it came from. It was started by some geeks that play MMORPG's. Its called Leet speak (or 1337 speak). pwned is like being owned but worse, if you are pwned, you freaking suck. The only time I used owned is when I feel like sounding like a geek.

I don't know what the hell pwned is, but I think owned is been around since the early 90's.
