ok, im a 19 yr old female and a little bi curious - what i always wondered is, why do u see lesbians/bi girls etc going out with women that dress up like men? Wouldn't that just remove the eroticism of femininity? I like to look feminine, and would get more turned on by a feminine woman than a butch woman. (although i still like the sexy men )

any thoughts? (i know this aint anime related at all... so lets somehow relate it... hmmm if utena and anthy were real who would u prefer?...lol)

so let me get this straight, your 19, a little bi curious, and your not butch. well, i'd like to be the first to welcome you here, i hope no one beat me too it. but about your question, i think the whole butch thing goes back to them actually wanting men, or wanting to be more like men. i mean, if they really were interested in women, why would they want women who try to look and act like men, and why would they try to emulate something they don't want?

Not true and quite ignorant and doesnt even answer the question... It is strange though why gay/bi people go for butch girls or camp guys but it seems to me that there is a scale of masculinty/sexuality that, in guys for example, that the more masculine looking and acting gay guys seem to get into their head that their sexual partner must be smaller or more effeminate or something or they like to be the macho guy and dominant in the relationship... Probably the same for girls... They might feel a partner has to be stronger and incharge or even someone to look after them... I guess we will never truely know... Maybe you should kiss a big butch dyke and find out

Hmm.. don't know why they'd want to dress up butch. Never really thought much about it. But I agree with you.. I definately think it's sexier to see two feminine girls together. If you are a transsexual, you wish to be considered a member of the opposite sex, and may have undergone a sex change. If you are a transvestite, you dress in clothes commonly associated with the opposite gender. If you are a lesbian, you are attracted to the same sex. Lesbians are not transsexuals, because in fact, they do not wish to be men. As far as the question at hand goes, I am neither a lesbian nor do I have any close lesbian friends. Therefore, I am highly unqualified to answer. However, if I were to venture a guess from a psychological standpoint and from my research in the gay male community, it would be that the reason some lesbian women are attracted to "butch" women is the same reason why some "straight" women are attracted to effeminate men. They just are. This may be stem from cultural norms or stereotype conformity or a particular social identity. Lesbians are attracted to other women. And women are diverse creatures. Some guys like tomboys and some guys like southern belles. And lesbians show the same diversity in taste. It's just more salient (it sticks out) when it confirms a stereotype. I know previous generations of lesbians conformed much more to "butch" or "femme" roles, but today I think much of that has come out in the wash as gender norms started to relax.

EDIT: Oh, and JunkieJoe, the reason woman prefer girl-girl scenes in porn is because male porn actors are generally so heinous it's not possible to be turned on by them. Although I do believe women have much more fluid sexual identities.
