So basically, only difference is the Robotech(first chpater) is English dubbed, and Macross is in original Japanese, and some name changes?

Robotech also deleted several scenes, and the dubbing was largely inaccurate at times. Many times, they were just making up shit, causing the entire moral, mood, and tone of the series to change. The songs were entirely changed from the Japanese version, and Minmei (robotech) had nowhere as many songs as Minmay (Macross) did, and Mari Iijima as Minmay in Macross was angelic, particularly compared to her bitchy Robocrap equivalent.

One particular thing that really pissed me off about Robotech is the fact that they attribute the Valkyries' ability to transform to its powersource, which they call 'Protoculture'. In Macross, Protoculture is the ancient civilization that aided in the evolution of humankind and Zentradi. There were NO Robotech Masters, there were no bullshit Invid, and the Macross in the SDF Macross TV series was a Supervision Army ship (which if you've watched Macross 7, is a Protodeviln-possessed army, and yes the Zentradi had been fighting them for centuries), NOT a Robotech master ship found in Robotech. In SDF Macross (NOT Robotech), the reason the Zentradi wanted the Macross was due to the Zentradi's lack of ability to effect repairs on their ship, as well as the human's thermonuclear fusion weapon technology (known as reaction weaponry for historical reasons in Japan). In Robotech, it's because the SDF-1 (notice how it's NOT called the Macross, as Macross is the island in Robotech) contained the last of the Protoculture power source. It's ridiculous, particularly when Harmony Gold tried to make it make sense using pure dialogue and no footage to back it up (obviously, since it didn't exist in SDF Macross). Minmei's songs in Robotech often talked about winning wars and beating the enemy, whereas Minmay's (Macross) songs were always about love and peace among humans and Zentradi. The differences between the two series are even more apparent when the SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie is brought into play.

It's changes like the ones I listed above that really make Macross and different and superior series to Robotech. There's many more discrepencies, and I don't care what anybody says. Macross is Macross, and Robotech is Robotech. Macross != Robotech, or more accurately, Macross > Robotech.

Robojack knows his stuff about Macross Big Grin

I am not really a mech fan, but I respect to each his own and what others like. I can see why some like mech animes. But I find it very admirable that if you like something you are educated about it. I hate to see when people love or say they love something and have no idea what they are talking about.

Thank you for your comprehensive answer RoboJack.
I believe that settles the Macross vs. Robotech argument fairly well.

Thanks. For everyone who wants a great place to talk about Macross, or simply to learn more about it, visit the MacrossWorld Forums. There are tons of people there who love to argue and talk about every facet of Macross, whether it be the technology or just exploring the psyches of various characters. There's even a Robotech area, where you can talk about Robotech and lots of mecha series.

He's the SOB at Harmony Gold who prevented Macross from being presented in its purest form in North America. Instead of just dubbing the voices, which is acceptable, he changed too many aspects of the story, and butchered many scenes. All this changed the overall tone and message of the story. May he rot in hell for eternity.

One of my friends told me he is doing/done Aura Battler Dunbine. Is this true and how is it different than the japanese dub ?

I agree totally. I personally don't like Macross or Robotech. But I do applaud him for being educated about something he feels so strongly about. It's rare that you find someone who can back up their opinions with facts.
