  Raijin Comics
Posted by: kakoi_sugoi_yama - 02-22-2003, 01:20 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (2)

I don't read manga in english normally( I prefer its home language), but today while walking around in my local comic shop a magazine caught my eye. The name was Raijin Comics. This has so many stories that are so hard to find in its original language. First of all being Fist of the Blue Sky! The prequel to Fist of the North Star! Also it contains City Hunter, and Slam Dunk! Most of these are harder to come by considering they haven't been in print for a while. The translations are very good, and all of the japanese sound effects are left intact.( which need to be there, because they are part of the artwork) I just though that you guys should know about these quality stories in print in the usa. Long live Tetsuo Hara and Buronson! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin [/u]

  Downloading things

I was downloading some Girls Gone Wild on WinMX and some bastard canceled me and told me to share my files. First of all I always share except when I have huge downloads to make. I've been sharing since Napster and I always let people get stuff unless my machine really needs a rest.

  Missing subs
Posted by: Cipo - 02-21-2003, 05:02 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (4)

I was reading some reviews, and noticed that almost every AS/MAC set ripped from the R1s have missing subs. Kinda strange, but then I remembered one thing that was occurring to me too. I like to play with DivX, video editing and the such and when I was ripping subs with Subrip I noticed that it was losing some lines here and there! You ended having 2-4 lines less than the total of sub-pics.
This prog uses an OCR algorithm to estract the text of the subs, because they are stored as small bitmaps on the DVDs. And so I thought... maybe AS/MAC is/was using an old version of it? I checked the latest changelog and the bug is now fixed (2002/05/19 SubRip 0.98b).
I was wondering do you think we should write them to update their software?
But I fear they'll just tell me to please gonna f**k myself...

  dvds
Posted by: Boogymonster - 02-20-2003, 06:15 PM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (68)

im a noob with this website and all the dvds in here. y are they so damn cheap? i saw reviews mentioning rips and stuff and i saw hong kong dvds so im now very confused. i first noticed cheap dvds on them bidding websites so i thought id go figure out where they got them. Also i saw chinese subtitles. i thought chinese subtitles were only on vcds. all in all, my question, again, is what and where did these dvds come from. it would be great if my inquiry would be answered thanks....

oh yeah, the best anime ive seen so far is Grave of the Fireflies. very powerful.

  Evangelion Perfect Collection

Quote:Hey guys, just got my EVA Perfect in the mail this morning and have started to watch some of it.

Here's my impressions so far:

- Video quality is just about on par with the R1's. There's practically no macroblocking or compression issues which is suprising considering the high amount of eps on the disc. Visually this is one of the best rips I have seen to date.
- The set has extras. Stuff like character bios and things like that are found on the first disc. I haven't seen the other discs yet but I reckon they will have extras too.
- Menu's are fully animated and gorgeous to look at.
- Soundtrack 'appears' to be in 2.0 Stereo and 5.1 Stereo tracks respectively.
- Packaging is the usual gatefold job except it has lovely EVA stills imprinted on the inside and front cover. I tried looking for the usual HK company markings too and I could find none. I'm near enough 99% sure that this isn't FX since it doesn't carry their emblem anywhere, doesn't have their usual contents list on the back of the box and has a higher encoding than most FX titles i've seen.

So far, it's a truly awesome set. Whoever ripped it is a genius.
