Opinions on Berserk and Escaflowne studios
Posted by: philw007 - 03-20-2003, 12:55 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (19)

Which version is better for Berserk, MI or Mac (they are selling the mac version here)?

Which version is best for Escaflowne? There is one from A which doesn't have english dub. There is one from Fx with english dub. Now there is the one from Mac on this site (perfect edition) with english dub.

Thanks for advice.

questionS:- seikai series, ranma series, Lupin III series
Posted by: neoEIN - 03-20-2003, 10:39 AM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi,

(1)

In the Seikai series, what are the correct chronological order for the following titles (and please specify if the English name is correct for the title):-
-Seikai no Monshou (Crest of the star)
-Seikai no Senki (Banner of the star)
-Seikai no Senki II (Banner of the star II)
-Seikai no Danshou (Lost Chapter of the star birth)

The MI of Seikai no Manshou is good. Do I need to get all 4 titles to have a closure to the plot? What is another anime title that is similar style and approach as the Seikai (Ghost in the Shell movie?). I've no found many postings of ppl liking this title (ie Seikai no Monshou). I like GITS and GITS:SAC.

(2)

As for Ranma TV, I know there are MAC fx-ripped R1 season1+2, MAC own-sub R1 season3, and MI R2 ep 1-161 3-boxes. Given VIZ has a R1 season 4, I can't see how the entire Ranma TV ends with season 4. Even FX season1+2 and season3+4 only have up to 88 eps (FX season1+2 has ep 1-40, and FX season3+4 has ep 41-88), what makes up 89 - 161???

How is the MI R2 ripped ep 1-161 video quality? I hope no worst then AV Inuyasha box 1-3 (ghosting, grainy, corse audio).

Many ppl said the Ranma OVA is the essence of the Ranma TV. How many filler are there in the Ranma TV? Then there are the Ranma Random Rhapsody and Ranma movie. Hmm...looks like a lot to buy if I get into Ranma.....

If I have to pick between MI Ranma TV, and MI Maison Ikkoku, which one would you advise? I like Kare Kono.

(3)

I've read mixed comments of Lupin III TV. I know there are
-MI Lupin III 1st season
-MI Lupin III 2nd season P1
-MI Lupin III 2nd season P2

Given Lupin III 2nd season has 155 eps, and Lupin III 2nd season part2 ends with ep 52, there are atleast several more season 2 parts coming. My question is how good really of this Lupin III that warrants a collection? Is it episodic like Cowboy Bebop? Can you give me another title that has similar style and approach

Whew, OK. That's good for now. Any input or feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks.

  Bad News

I have some news that effects a few of you...

I was just notified (10:30 PM thursday Japan time) that my Grandfather
is in the hospitol in critical condition. He has had 2 strokes in less than 2 years and now his lungs are filling up with fluid. I have been offered emergency leave to be at his side. His chances of being alive by the time I arrive are slim.

By taking this leave I will be leaving Saturday the 22nd. Which brings me to my second point. Unless I can pull a rabbit out of my hat I won't be able to attend the con. To be honest with the way things kicked off in Iraq I was probly going to get my leave cancled. At least this way I still get to come home. It is not the way I intended but I will be there for my family.

If I am still able to make it to the con I will let you all know. And it will be posted here if I can go bye Friday morning your guys time.

Hey if you believe in God please pray for me & my family. If not just a little bit of hope in your heart will go a long way...

Thanks your Friend..... David AKA Morgorath

Best and Worst Jobs You Ever Had!!!!
Posted by: DARK OSAMU - 03-19-2003, 11:54 PM - Forum: General Babble - Replies (9)

Well I am bored and thought I'd ask this! So here goes for me!!!!

The best Job I ever had was the last one I had. I was doing Heating and Air for a little company down the road from me. I only crawled under a house for like 3 days just to help the residential guys and that was near thje end of that job. I started out in the shop cutting insulation and metal to make heating ducts. I pieced them together and drove them to job sites around the state. That is right, around the STATE to deliver them to jobs the company had taken. After 2 months I was promoted to COMMERCIAL! I went to factories in the make and other companies to atually put up the duct I had pieced together. I had tons of fun climbing in rafters and nearly killing myself everyday cause I am/was afraid of heights. I was on roofs so high you could see the curveture of the earth! Man I loved that stuff. We also busted old heaters and units down on what we call "the hill". Crushing cutting bashing smashing all sorts of stuff you weren't allowed to as a Kid I was getting paid for! Eventually I had an incedent where I needed surgery and it also happened to be winter/down time when it happened. I was eventually layed off. I really liked that job.

  Friend's Thoughts on Eva *Spoilers*
Posted by: Shinn Asuka - 03-18-2003, 09:04 PM - Forum: Anime Discussion - Replies (7)

My friend on Zophar, IceNine0, wrote this.

Ok, so here we go. I'm aware of the backstory behind End of Eva's creation, but not sure of the details. Some people say Anno was satisfied with the series' ending and was pressured into making the movies whilst others say he was planning to make them all along. I personally believe the former, considering the radical shift of view between eps 25+26 and End of Eva.

As I understand it -

Big Theme of Evangelion -

An individual person is alone, tormented, isolated and fearful. He/she can never truly understand anyone else and no one can understand him/her.

Moral of 25 + 26:

However, if one tries hard enough to love oneself, breaks through the barriers of communication and learns to care for and try to understand others, he'll achieve as true of happiness as possible. This happens automatically during third impact and Shinji is saved.

End of Evangelion:

Humans are masochistic, live for selfish gain, and take a perverse pleasure in dealing and receiving pain. When all of humanity is merged together, Shinji can't cope and it feels "all wrong". Everyone still hates him and he still fears everyone else. No one will ever understand each other. In the end, Shinji chooses to sacrifice everything to be with the person who hates him the most, Asuka. It all fits in with the first text in End of Eva - "that's why it'd be good if everyone dies"

I almost feel that EoE is a savage backlash by Anno against his fans for the pain and betrayal they caused him. The dark, vicious twists put on all the characters and the pessimistic ending are evidence of that.

Now, going out on a limb, I believe Shinji and Asuka's characters in EoE to be symbolic of those psychotic Eva fans' relation to Evangelion the series.

Think of the scene where Shinji wanks off over Asuka in the sick room (Yeah, EoE is messed up). Forsaking everyone else in his life, he tries to awaken an unconscious Asuka on life support (the Evangelion series) saying that she's "the only one who can help him" (like those crazy fans who sent Anno death threats). After Shinji savagely shakes her, Asuka's gown falls open, revealing her naked body (the dark, painful messed uppedness of EoE, all that's left for Anno to express), and then Shinji masturbates over her, takes a perverse, self-destructive pleasure in the act and says "Man, I'm fucked up." He's equivalently naive and insane to those fans who rejected the hope of the original series (even committed suicide over it).

Those are my two cents, anyway. EoE was way cool, but I prefer to think of original 25 and 26 as Anno's intended ending.
