We Need More Reviews!!! |

i must say i am quite concerned that some dvds lack reviews despite being sold out of stock once and in some cases several times. in order to solve this problem i propose that JJ introduce some kind of reward scheme for those who write lots of reviews or the first review of a set. however it would be hard to suggest what kind of reward scheme he should introduce as his site is already dirt cheap and i dont think it would be possible for him to give away free dvds as it would probably make it impossible for him to make any kind of profit.
any suggestions?
its a good idea, right?

If you are a fan of Lupin III series, you owe yourself to read at least one book from the original Arsene Lupin stories that the anime is based on. Even though I like the Lupin anime a lot , it never quite comes close to the enjoyment of reading the superb original novels. Supposedly, Lupin III is the grand son of a famous French thief Arsene Lupin, but it feels more like Japanese cartoonist stole the Lupin character right out of the novels and planted other Japanese characters around him to 'japanify' Lupin, so to speak. There are many parellels between the anime and the books such as Lupin's love for treasure hunt and beautiful women, bumbling inspector Genimard ala Zenigata, colorful villains with super abilities, and the riddles of mysteries.
Original Lupin stories are written by a French author Maurice Leblanc. Some of his best works of Lupin are "Countess of Cagliostro aka Memoirs of Arsene Lupin," "813," "Secret of Sarek," "Teeth of Tiger" "GoldenTriangle" and "Hollow Needle" There is even a story in which he goes against the famous detective Sherlock Holmes for battle of wits, titled "Arsene Lupin vs. Herlock Sholmes" Unfortunately, the original stories were written in French and it is very hard to obtain English translated versions nowadays. One time, I had to shell out 50 pounds for a second edition of "Secret of Sarek" that came out in 1920's.
Luckily, thanks to the tremendous effort of public service by Project Gutenberg, some of the original Lupin books are restored into electronic version in English, and now they are available for free. These links are from the University of Pennsylvania library web site.

Among this list, I highly recommend "The Hollow Needle" and "Crystal Stopper" For all Lupin III fans, please, try one and enjoy the same thrill that I enjoyed.

Asian movie thread |

Well since Import-Anime has started selling asian movies a thread devoted to them seems like the natural thing to have.
I've been watching alot of asian movies lately, mostly Korean and Chinese but some Japanese ones as well.
Saw Bounce Ko Gal yesterday, great movie about japanese high school girls that whore themselves t oold perverted men, despite the subject matter of the film it wasn't very graphic. The director mentioned how he was influenced by the movie Kids and it did remind me of that movie, about youth and friendship in a ever changing society.
I also saw Shark Skin Man and Peach hip Girl recently. Pretty good movie, I would call it a Tarantino insprired gangster movie.
Infernal Affairs 3 recently came out on DVD amd I got a chance to check it out, not as good as the first 2 movies, I didn't like the way the movie goes from past to present to future all the time during the movie. Also some sequences didn't make much sense according to the first 2 movies.
The first Korean movie I saw was My Sassy Girl, what a great movie this was, some would call it a chick flick but it's a great movie. The two main characters are in about every single scene and there are barely any supporting characters but they have great chemistry together. I also saw a bunch of korean gangster comedy but most wer forgetable maybe except for My Wife is a Gangster, funny movie with some cool action sequences
That's all I can think of now, so anyone here seen any good asian movies lately ?
