I just saw on many of the bittorent sites that someone already released a subbed dvd rip of Advent Children which I can vouch that it isn't a fake. Just thought I should start a discussion on it to see what you guys think of the movie and the fact that it was leaked one day before the Japanese dvd premiere.

yeh i think the first day it was released my friend called me and was goin hyper (she Loved with a capital L, the final fantasy 7 game) so she gave me it and i watched it the other day. Graphics, wow! It does look absolutely amazing - but i dunno, it was cool an all but the story was kinda dry. It felt like scene after scene with action and talking but no real story to keep it interesting. Just the on-going idea of finding 'mother' through out the whole movie.

Like, when you say dry, was it just not good at all or not what you were expecting?

I enjoyed the movie. Stellar CG mediocre story. Pretty much what I expected.

If you played and enjoy FFVII, then you'll really like the movie. Otherwise I've had friends who never played, and they found it 'okay', since they had no idea who was who, and the backstory of each character. The story was a simple one, but it was nicely executed. The 10 minutes alone impressed me more than Spirits Within as a whole. The music was fantastic, I'm going to get the OST as soon as it's released and ripped on IRC. I'll probably be getting a full-sized DVD rip sometime, so the video quality should be even better then.

The story was ok, but nothing special - you'll see when you watch it. There is this one current theme that gets repeated through out, oh and yeh if you haven't played the game you won't understand a single thing.
And yeh it is much better than the spirits within because it actually has characters from the game, and their story is related. However *SPOILER AHEAD* I thought it was kinda cheesy the way Sephiroth quickly came in and went - what was that about? *END SPOILER* Beautiful eyecandy basically. But thats just my opinion, so you all might like it. (you all everybody! lol, sorry just a little 'Lost' reference there.)

As I remember ff7 had a really cool story, with all the characters and cloud's whole memories thing - this just wasn't up to comparison in the story.

***SPOILERS***
I'm not really sure how many spoilers will actually be in this post, but I figured that I would label it just in case. Nobuo Uematsu is a god. That is one thing that I am certain of. I've played Final Fantasy VII more times than any other Playstation title (even more than One Piece Grand Battle 2). It was the reason I bought a Playstation in the first place. This movie really was nothing more than a Fan-gasm to me. Probably my biggest gripe with this movie is the fact that the other characters from the game barely make an appearance at all. Part of the reason I loved the game so much was for its cast of characters and how they played off of each other. The other characters from the game (Barret, Cid, Yuffie, Red, Cait Sith) didn't even have a real reason to be there. Sure I understand that Cloud is the central character but at least give these guys something interesting to do. I really liked the ensemble of Final Fantasy VII the game. It's a real shame that it didn't port over to this movie. ***END SPOILERS*** Even with all that said I still enjoyed watching the movie. I will watch it again, but I still can't help but think of what it could have been.
