Ok I'm wondering if it's possible for a computer to have two Hard Drives? I bought a 120 GB but when I was going to put it on my computer I notice lol there's no place of a "holder" to hold the harddrive. :eek:

So can a computer hold two harddrives? :confused:

yes they can depending on two things.
1- if you have enough power plugs called a molex
2-if your compter has a free ide or Sata cable/slot free

to check this first find your other hard drive the small most probably white plugs is the power, look to see if they is a free one in your computer
if yes, then check the other plug that goes to the hard drive, see if their is another one of those free, if not follow it down to the motherboard and check if their is a free slot beside the one that is their. if yes you are in luck and just need to get a ide cable

Yeah, I have a 25 gig, & a 40 gig (I think). I got another 40 gig for x-max, but haven't put it in in place of the 25 yet. And I doubt I ever will cause my dad was pointing out they had a 300 gig on sell, of course I was like WTF!!!! 'cause I could actually afford it.

Ok I tried but it seems I'm missing a connector? I have a small paper which was Included in the Samsung Serial ATA HDD it's basicly the Installation Guide it shows that I need two cables and I'm pretty sure I already have the Power Cable which was in the package but I'm missing one cable that is shown on the Installation Guide and it's a Serial ATA host adapter.

So um where can I buy a Serial ATA host adapter connector at Fry's? And how much to they cost?

Yes you need to buy the Controller card to have more hardrives (in theory you can have unlimited harddrives) make sure you have a free PCI slot for the controller card

and make sure u have the room in your case for all that stuff, otherwise upgrade to a bigger case

Yeah, I've always wanted a giant server like tower of harddrives next to my computer with a combined space of atleast one terrbyte. Sad thing is, I could fill that thing up in about a year or two. I'm a pack rat of sorts, I don't like to get rid of things, plus I listen to aall sorts of music.
I think atleast 200 gigs for music would make me happy, the same for anime/manga, half of that for porn, & the rest for programs/games.

I have three hard drives in my tower totalling over 200 gigs and I find myself running out of space all the time. 50 gigs of that is just music and another 75 gigs are for photos... everything else is applications, movies, anime and whatever else I've downloaded.

Make sure that you install the controller with the red cable to the right side of the hard drive (when viewed from the rear). It's kind of easy to put this cable in backwords on some cheaper machines and can destroy your controller if not put in right.

Thats the nice things about Serial ATA Zag is you don't have that problem as with Parrellel ATA. Cable can only go one way.. But yes you just go to any computer store and look for a Serial ATA Host Card.

I haven't had my hands on any of the SATA stuff yet. I'm usually about three generations behind the curve with my equipment. My PIII 1Ghz machine makes me pretty happy most of the time. I just keep dumping more RAM and more HDD space into it to handle all the 2d stuff I play with.

I can't see updating my system in the near future either. It does everything I want it to do... I just have to be patient sometimes.

yea but grab some SATA controllers and start putting those in.. they have SATA300 now with NCQ which is very nice.. hehe which can be added to your 3rd gen computer.. Lol

1- first make sure you have an IDE cable that can support another hard drive. To do this just open up your desktop and look at the multi-ribbon cable plugged into your CD/DVD drive and Floppy drive, then look to see if it has a open slot on it. If it does your in luck.
2- make sure you have a power supply plug for it. just look around and find one if you can otherwise go buy a new power supply and spend loads of money having someone install it. lol
3- make sure you have a bolt-in slot on the case if you don't then you gotta buy a new case in which case you might as well buy a new comp and transfer the old HDD to the new comp that hopefully is bigger. also make sure you have about 1/2 of an inch between the case and the hard drive before you bold it in and try to turn on the comp. (this ensures the hard drive doesn't rattle around or burn up.)
4- if have a free slot and power supply plug then hook it up by the directions then boot your pc up. you have to set the BIOS to recognize the new hard drive as a slave and the original hard drive as master that is unless you want the new drive to be the one with windows on it, in which case you have to reinstall everything.

He has already stated that he has a SATA drive and not an IDE drive. And more then likely he doesn't have a SATA controller in his computer. also SATA drives only 1 drive hooks up to a single cable to prevent issues that people had like with IDE.
