well. for one thing... im flat broke at the moment. (just spent $170 on manga lol) and the other reason is that manga's are heavy and shipping generally tends to cost alot. but the between the two places near me i got : trigun v1, fruits basket v1 and v2, chobits v1-3, and dues vitae v2-3, one peice v1-2, inu-yasha v1, shaman king v1, confidential confessions v1, and a ghost in the shell wallscroll... so i think im doing pretty good Smile (totally cleaned out all my money though Sad)

EDIT: btw andromeda, do u know of any good places to buy manga online

Not really, I buy all my manga in stores so I'm not the best person to suggest websites that sell manga. However, amazon.com ships some items for free if you spend over $25. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...s&n=507846
This way if you buy $25 worth of manga you won't have to pay s&h. There's also this website Vicious mentioned some time ago: http://www.dollarmanga.com/

MOstly because of lack of credit card, and lack of money. I stick to ordering through the Bookstore, they have lots, but its pricey =\

Ordering over the net is something I'm still not too fond about... Not because I'm scared about my credit card number, but I tend to stick to the same bookstore, and other stores as well, when I like them. I like Anime-Import because of the great service, but I have to admit I was reticent to order at first, but now I'm kinda hooked.

I do order alot from amazon for all my other bookneeds, but when it comes to manga, I still prefer to buy in the same place as usual, a bookstore near where I live. Pricey yes, a lot of choices, but I can read the manga in store, see if I like it and buy it or not. Buying over the net is like taking a book with blind eyes.

However, I'll take another year of Japanese classes and I'll buy manga directly of yesasia.com You can find original japanese manga there, for somewhat 8CAD, it's a really reasonnable price and it will help me keep in touch with the japanese language.

So for those who can't afford cheaper books in "net store", it's okay. Buying manga is not about having a huge collection, it's about what you read. It's preferable, in my opinion, to buy something you really want at a higher price and spend a great time in the bookstore, than doing it on the net.
You'll need it in due time

This is true.
Even if I *had* I credit card, chances are I wouldnt use it for anything but Import-Anime, and maybe Amazon, because, theyre worthy.
Lucky you, I can't read Japanese, so I have to stick to the old American style and scanlations. but, Tokyo-pop is what I usually buy from, and theyre not all that bad.

For more places to buy manga-

Overstock.com has the standard $10 gns for $6.99 EA. Del Rey titles (that are usually priced at 10.95 ea.) for $7.50 ea. Every few months they have coupons that can be added to lower the price even further.

Animaniacs has graphic novels for $7.50 ea.

BuyDvd.com has them for $7.46-.49 ea.

When RightStuf has their next Tokyopop or Viz studio sale they'll be about $6.99 ea.

Torrencia.com has a small selection but their prices are really good- $6.00-$6.57 ea. I bought from there before, everything was great. The books were even sealed too.

But the cheapest of all that I've seen is a place called AllDirect.com- $6.17-.19 per book with a huge selection (Shonen Jump gns- like Rurouni Kenshin- originally priced at $7.95 are $4.95 ea.) I was very skeptical of the place at first, but I did an order of 12 all in-stock items, everything went through fine and they arrived quickly.

Tokyopop.com's clearence section sometimes has sales on their lesser selling manga (I've seen Forbidden Dance, Clamp School, and some Gundam GNs) for $5 ea with cheap shipping. They're only there and at that price for a short time though.
