The Slayers
Princess Moninoke
Kiki's Delivery Service
Laputa, Castle in the Clouds
Spirited Away
My neighbor Totoro
Anything from Ghibli Studios would be appropriate. Happy shopping.
On another note...I have a 25 year old husband to buy for...any ideas?!?!

I'm not a specialist for the 2nd graders, but I think Sugar the Fairie (sorry about not giving you the real title, in fact I don't really know about this anime) or Full Moon wo sagashite would be good picks
As for 25, that's one hell of a thing to suggest... It would be probably more about his tastes than his age. But surprise him, in any way you can think off, that is all what a man really wants
You'll need it in due time

Will he not see this! Oh, well. When Christmas roles around it try to get merchandise for people rather than just videos. Like a ceramic bust or wall scroll or the sound track to a particular anime they like would be good. As for second graders, um...sorry, I got no clue. If they like anime a lot then they have probably seen the stand-bys like DB and stuff. Again try to get them merchandise or something I guess.

Perhaps Sailor Moon would be a good choice for a second grader probably or definately anything Studio Ghibli. As for you, Ka-Tallya, we could probably help you better if you told us what kinds of anime he likes and which ones.

How about a good old fashioned Gift Certificate so they can pick out what they want.... you no longer are stuck on what would be good or not good for them (although some supervision might be a good idea for the 2nd grader) ... let them choose!! Plus you also won't run into getting them something they have already seen or wouldn't like...
CJV has gift baskets with plenty of snack items, so you could slip a gift certificate in one of those and you'd be all set... or there is the option of adding anime and/or anime merchandise like plushies or keychains etc. as well... or add your own stuff you've already purchased!!

I would have gotten the Studio Ghibli set personally. Even I want it.

Sugar : A Little Snow Fairy
Angelic Layer
Mao-Chan
Saint Tail
Super Gals
Kaleido Star
Full Moon Wo Sagashite (Searching For The Full Moon) has moments of sugary shoujo fun, but also has moments of compelling tragedy (especially during the second season). It does a great job balancing out it's tones and leaving an underlying message of hope. Anyway the first season (1-26) is fine for a second grader. This one hasn't been liscensed yet though (so no eng dub.)
Personally I'd get Angelic Layer and/or Sugar.

I think a good anime for a 2nd grader would be Hokuto No Ken. But hey what do I know.

Yeah right! ("Hokuto No Ken" in Japanese translates to "Fist of the North Star" in English)
