Interesting Blu-Ray Disc Article

I don't see why there is so much hype over the new formats. If you are a game developer filling a 30 gigs would be a challenge but then again you have graphics and sound to eat up some space. Then again if you put more graphics and sound then you need a machine to keep up with it. I wanna hear about hardware development honestly as all graphics and sound depend on hardware much like in the gamecube situation.

I would like to see Blu-Ray used as you could stuff a whole anime series on a Blu-Ray which would be cool. I think the downfall of Blu-Ray will be the reverse DVD usage feature.

unless programmers start using voxels instead of polygons then we don't need a blu-ray disc that holds 25gigs.

Schultz Wrote:you know they won't do that.. that would loose them money.. But what it is they are planning on using the space to make HD DVDs.. basically encoding the Video at 1080i screen resolution and at a very high bitrate.. probably like 15mb/s so then the movies are much larger and probably would fill the whole discs.. right now depending on how they do ti.. most dvd's are ~ 5mb/s bitrate at 720x480 screen resolution.. But they still don't have the codec they want to use yet.. keep mpeg2 or go with mpeg4 or with wmv etc..

what about 1080p?

Nintendo Reveloution out in 2005 so maybe by may we can see some hardware specs for the new nintendo system and maybe the new xbox. so untill then we will not know how the new games will be and systems for awhile now. i can only hope we get better graphics on games. like way better then ps2 graphics they suck on most games !

Yea the ps2 does somewhat on graphics now because if you play a gamecube game you will notice graphics 50% of the time are twice the quality of a ps2 game. I really want Blu-Ray though it has a caddy which I find important for protecting any disc format. I find that the protection of the caddy goes sky high as DVDs don't have error correction like CDs do and then you wanna talk about 15-30 gigs without error correction? Sounds kinda crazy unless you have protection.

the ps2 i think has the worst load times out of every system out right now it take so so so so long to load. i played ssx trickey on all 3 systems and gamecube was the fastest and next was the xbox and then the ps2 its sad. on there next system they need to work on load times. faster laser , so if they choose blu-ray then they will have a new laser to read and maybe then it will load faster. also think if you could in the game change stuff so the laser could write on the disc what you changed so what ever system you play it on it shows up on there no use for a memory card??????

just thinking now of the possibilities.

isn't it like only 780p ? i know 1080i is interlaced video while 780p is progressive..

Next generation of format war between blue-ray and HD DVD? I'll say no contest except Microsoft is backing HD DVD. But most likely blue-ray will win out at the end. Sony got way too much support.

I know 1080p exists.

All those resolutions are fine if you got a TV that can use them; if you don't why even bother? The greater majority of people won't get any functionality out of it because they don?t have HDTV?s. Would it even look good on a regular TV? (I seriously don?t know someone answer please)

But the problem is.. these are formats for the next generations.. Also the next generation tv's are all supporting HDTV now.. Also i know in the states they are pushing to have everything HDTV capable by like 2006-2008 all cable channels everything..
