PS3 and BLU-Ray
#1
"Sony officials have confirmed that the next iteration of the PlayStation home console will be equipped with a Blu-Ray disc drive, allowing it to play back high definition movies as well as providing more space for game developers on the discs."

With 5 times the space of a dvd, on a single layerd disk, thats gona be soo good. Hopefully they can make games as good as they can.

i dont know what to get anymore. I was allways gona go for xbox 2, but the ps3 console seems to be so much better from what i heard. THe the xbox 2's console is getting worse by the sounds of it. NO hard drive not back compatable, ther just skimping out on costs.

Sounds cool on the fact SONY will actually use BLU-Ray in the PS3. Now you'll be able to save your games on the disc drive instead of a memory card. This means that the BLU-Ray is gonna replace the DVD since SONY wants to win this war of the next-gen of video and they are gonna have big foot-hold due to the fact BLU-Ray is already in use.

I think Microsoft is waiting to see what SONY is going to pull of from their arse before they start naming off the components in their new machine. Come on do you really think Microsoft will give up without a fight? I wanna see what Nintendo's new console is going to be. I hope they can keep up with SONY's race to space.

That all depends on who you ask some history books say it was the other guys. :p

I think the BLU-Ray storage system sounds like a good system as it actuals protects the media. I remember the drive that had caddys for CDs. That will be cool to have better FMV but I think that might breed more Xenosaga movie cinema games.

I was wondering does the BLU-Ray drive allow people to play PS1 and PS2 games also? You know the Playstation lineage is starting to get long and well they need backwards compatibility.

Point taking. (bout the space race)

Answering ur question, yes it would be back compatable "The Blu-Ray specification also allows for reading existing DVD discs, so the PS3 will still be able to handle standard DVD movies and play PS2 and titles" .

Why can't they just make a console to play videogames , instead of a fucking DVD player.

Using dvds lets them put alot of info on a disk, and they need to read the disk so then its ablke to play dvds too. i see ur point tho, cos now i have 4 dvd players in my room, it just seems a waste.

I read an interview with some xbox exec who said that putting a built in hard drive on x-box1 was a BIG mistake. I think he went into a big thing about piracy but you don't need a built in hd to pirate. I am excited to get a ps3...it will be fully backwards compatable...ps2 and ps1 games! HOORAY!!!

Maybe Xbox should go on the hard-drive add-on route for Xbox2.

I wonder if the BLU-Ray will be used for anything else then PS3? Well just have to wait to see.

I hope the xbox2 dose have a way to inculde the hard drive. Im certain that blu-ray technology will be used for stuff like blank media like a dvd, it wud be good it they make it in to like store a movie on the disk, like a dvd. Just have supream quality. That wud help the Hk market out alot as u cud fit a lot of like 5-6 disk series on one disk. Then when they get a duel layered disk out then u cud fit more than one series on a disk.

Save games in a disc drive? the Blu-Ray is another read only format like DVD's and CD's. Its just a different standard that stores 5 times as much as a DVD.

Also Sony is trying to get Blu-Ray as the next standard to use for HD-DVD's along with a few other media standards are trying to get theres used.. The only problem is if Blu-Ray doesn't become mainstream then why is it good to be able to read Blu-Ray movies..

Wow the PS2 sounds really interesting.
There can be tears of sadness, and there can be tears of joy, but they are far from the same.

I can't get super exceited about having over 20 gigs of space for a game. I really don't think many games need that much space and I hope this doesn't set a precedent that PC developers will try and follow.
