US: "One Piece", "Mew Mew" on hiatus
#1
In the US, other than in the manga, it seems that Luffy will never become the Pirate King; he never even made it to the Grand Line (I think). According to Anime News Network, 4Kids has put "One Piece" and another series, "Mew Mew Power" ("Tokyo Mew Mew") on indefinite hiatus from the "4Kids TV" schedule on Fox, effective this Saturday (11/19).

The 11/19 schedule is as follows:

8 AM- Magical DoReMi New Episode)
8:30- Winx Club (reruns)
9 AM- Bratz (reruns)
9:30- Winx Club (New Episode)
10 AM- Bratz (New Episode)
10:30- Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles (New Episode)
11 AM- Sonic X (New Episode)
11:30- GI Joe Sigma 6 (reruns)

No word on if CN's "One Piece" episodes will be affected.

Maybe it woulda done better if they hadn't cut it into pieces and kicked it in the nuts while it was down.

K-F has just released episode 164.

One Piece has been destroyed in America. The manga and the anime. It is really unfortunate. I wish 4Kids didn't even bother in the first place. Why not bring shows over that are more appropriate for your audience, instead of getting a show and making it fit your standards. I've never understood that.

One Piece is the only manga/anime that I have made sure to keep up with. I remember when I was the only One Piece fan on here. It's good to see that it's gaining popularity.

Do any of you guys read the Japanese scans every week?

Thanks for the heads up on 165. It came much faster than they usually do. Looks like I'm off to IRC.

Thanks. I got the KF link from another member through pm (thanks for that again).

I've only been keeping up with naruto in the last year, haven't watched any other anime other than a movie or two. But I wanted to get some more one piece after I saw up to ep.120. I had those eps from some China based ebay store on 24 dvd's. Most awefull subs ever. I'll probably read the charracters actual names for the first time in ep. 121. (Luffy was Roof, Zorro was Sanjo etc.).

I thought the show was already on the 200 ep. or something. What ep. are they in Japan?

One Piece episode 249 was the last one out.

The reason K-F aren't caught up is because they use the DVDs as their video source.

I'm not very keen on the scanlations of the Japanese original, but Viz's treatment of the manga isn't that bad (other than renaming Zoro as "Zolo" when the anime debuted in the US). It's 4Kids' treatment of the anime that crashed and burned -- they practically changed everything around to make it more appropriate for younger audiences, all the way down to Sanji's cigarette, which became a lollipop in the anime (though in Viz's manga, Sanji still smokes).

"One Piece" is a series that relies on violence as part of the storyline. And with 4Kids handling the packaging, they all but killed the action in that series.

I base my opinion of One Piece off of the Japanese book. I stand behind my earlier comment. One Piece has been destroyed in America. The manga and the anime. Viz has always been about unnecessary changes to fit a younger demographic. The dialogue Viz uses I have a huge problem with. They change the original so much. Viz's translation team is pretty terrible, and has always been that way.

Unless 4Kids follow the same lead as Shaman King and Yu Gi Oh by releasing the unedited version down the road.
