Kratos or Zelos? *SPOILER ALERT*

I've been meaning to ask those of you who have played Tales of Symphonia which of these two characters you chose. When you go to Flanoir to ask the doctor to heal Altessa you have the chance to choose between Zelos and Kratos (if you developed a good relationship with Kratos). I chose Kratos which resulted in Zelos's death and a serious undermining of his importance in the game. So, could those who chose Zelos please tell me what happened to him and to Kratos?
